DJTaso just did it, I'm sure he will reply. Others here have done it as well. Except for cutting a hole in the tunnel and making a mount for the master cylinder It is a plug and play conversion.
You'll need:
transmission with shifter
clutch housing with fork and T
pressure plate
clutch dust cover
clutch disc
flywheel
throw out bearing
pilot bearing
slave cylinder with spacer
master cylinder with fluid line
manual pedals (clutch and brake)
floor boot
manual trans wiring harness
crossmember
interior console trim with boot
Kits are available to do this conversion that include all the above.

I have done the conversion. Its not too bad. I wouldnt hesitate to do another. It took me a full weekend with a lift and access to all the right tools. The most difficult part was probably cutting the hole in the firewall for the master cylinder......and it wasnt very hard. Just use the manual trans pedal assembly as a template for the hole and cut it out with the right size hole saw. Then you have to reinforce the firewall with a another piece of metal, welded or bolted inot place. The rest is nuts and bolts. Darkz711, one of my students, just finished the job as well. He didnt have very many problems and could probably chime in on this too. He also found a cheaper alternative to buying the manual trans wiring harness.

I just got my car back a few weeks ago after the A4 to M6 conversion, and it was worth it. Just the feeling of a 6-speed describes it all.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the tools, nor the lift to do the conversion my self, so I had a performance shop do it.
If you do decide to go for the conversion, make sure you get the conversion kit. Buying the tranny and the parts one by one off ebay will turn out to be too pricey. You can find the conversion kits online. I got mine at www.lambertsalvage.com for $1,750.00 with shipping. Keep in mind that you are buying a used transmission from a junk yard, so there is no warranty unless they offer it, but in my case they didn't.
The only problems I had was my reverse had a bad synchro and the lockout solenoid spring was busted, meaning I could engage reverse while I'm driving. I ordered the part and quickly took care of that. My reverse grinds, due to the bad syncrho, but it's only reverse so I ain't sweatin' it, I could always fix that later.
Other than that, people asked me would I do it again and my answer is yes, I would. Like I said, it's just the feeling of having a 6-speed. It's great.
The "kits" are simply sets of parts pulled from wrecked 4th Gen/LT1's, made up by people who know what parts are required for the conversion. Any knowlegable junk yard that specializes in 4thGen/LT1 setups can help you out. I think there is one in Alabama called "Billy Graham's". Do an internet search for them and others.
You should also check the "for sale" boards, like the one at CamaroZ28.com. There are people selling complete T56 packages, who have converted to hi performance automatics. I sold my complete T56 setup, including Street Twin clutch, bellhousing with ballistic blanket, modified clutch hydraulics, Pro 5.0 shifter and even the "skip shift eliminator". I was even going to trade the guy for his A4 pedal assembly, but his shop screwed him and never pulled it out in time, so I never sent my M6 pedal assembly.
