  • Will I need a new tranny mount?

My shifter seems to bob up and down quite a bit lately. It even gets into a resonance where it just goes up and down while driving in a straight line.

Have I broken my tranny mount? Is there an upgrade that I can get to make it stiffer? Easy to install?

Let me know what I should do, or if I am just seeing things.

    Thanks!

I actually just broke my trans mount this past friday night after metallica , and replaced it on saturday. I know that my shifter wasn't bobbing up and down though. When your trans mount brakes, what you'll hear is a thump underneath your center console everytime you accelerate at least moderately, and if you have a shift kit, when you shift hard. It's a very distinguishable noise, and you can even feel it a little bit at times. That thump is the tailshaft of your transmission hitting your underbody because it's not anchored in. Changing it is a breeze, its just a nut that goes through your crossmember, and 2 bolts. I had to drop my crossmember to get to the 2 bolts, but when i did this i had a jack places under my tranny to keep it up. I used a polyurethane trans mount. It's stiffer and came with a lifetime warranty. So if you hear that thump, then its for sure your mount. If it's just your shifter bobbing up and down, then im not 100% positive. Im not a car expert and wouldnt want to give you false information, but there are alotta genuises on this board and im sure someone will help you out
    Good luck!
