  • Front shock replacement

Hay! Has anyone ever replaced their front shocks in the driveway? I bought some take offs from SLP and all the places in town will not change them for me as they say their used. And they will not install used parts. I have a 95 Z-28 conv. with 122,000 on it. Just replaced the 10 bolt with a currie 12 bolt, 3:73 gears on an Eaton poss. Have installed Kenny Brown Subframe connector, 3" cat back, K&N filter, New top, wings west spoiler and a 3" cowl induction hood, front tower brace. So if anyone has any suggestion on how to change front shocks in the driveway, I would be forever greatfull.
Or should I just keep them and have after market shocks installed. Who knowns in 30 years all the stuff we replace on our F-body rides will be priceless. Thanks for any help again.

Check Injuneer's site for a shock and spring install page as well as the photo page. The install is for Hal's, but most info pertains to stock shocks as well. Some people remove the spring/shock assy from the car, then take it to a shop to have things swapped. That's probably cheaper than buying a compressor, if you don't want to go that route.

Ridiculous that a shop won't do what you want to do. I had a shop refuse to check my alignment because my car was lowered. Even though I told them I wanted custom specs and would not hold them to a guarantee, they would not do it. I left their driveway in a "spirited" fashion, never to grace it again.

I just picked up a nice spring compressor kit for $10 at Harbor Freight Tools. the thing is no-doubt made in China, but it looks like it will get the job done just fine for swapping out the springs & shocks. I'm going to put in QA1 / HAL shocks like Injuneer has - Proma Stars, I think. I'm just not sure which springs to use - i don't want to lower the car any. You can adjust the ride height with the QA1s. I may get the QA1 springs also.

I think the shops should put the shocks in there for you cause if you bought them from SLP, they are pre-installed, but taken out before they were used, and why should that matter anyway??? I swear this is just another reason I do everything possible myself when it comes to my vehicles.
