Just got power from Progress Energy last nite!

Wow, what a wimpy name, and really not much of a storm here. The worst
part was that it was a god awful slow moving storm. It made landfall
late Saturday nite on the east coast, and took a whole 24 hours to move
    across the state.

Here we got the winds around noon on Sunday, probably starting around 40
or 50 mph. Along the south side of out property are our power lines,
the trees have steadily grown into them, so the wind gusts knocked the
trees over, but the power lines help them up. Some branches started to
burn, but the wind and light drizzle put the flames out. Just to show
how high up the gene pool my neighbor is, he tried to use his garden hose
to put the flames out. I didn't want to testify in court about his
insanity, so I went back inside. Around 12:30pm our power was off for
good, and still is. We MAY get it back Thursday nite. The worst part is
that our entire street has power because they are fed from the north
side. Luckily friends in Bradenton only lost power for a few hours,
so we picked up their generator Tuesday nite, some lite and the fans running
make life alot more bearable, especially since the beer is cold in the
    refrigerator now!.

Boychild and I drove out to the beach to check it out around 1 pm, the
Gulf and the Intercoastal had waves about 5 foot high, but they came in 5
foot cycles too. Sand was everywhere. Andrejs walked out to the beach, I
could see enough from the Suburban. by the time we returned, the large
trees in our front yard were pruned enough that we couldn't get back into
our driveway. About 4 or 5pm was the height of the storm with gusts
around 70 or 80 mph. Really not much rain here, by evening the eye had
passed about 30 miles to the north of us and had calmed down
considerably. After midnite the wind picked up from the opposite
direction and we started to get a few inches of rain, which continued
    through Monday.

Monday nite, da wife and I cleaned up the yard and stacked a tree full of
branches on the street for pickup. All looks normal now except for lack
of air conditioning, and the hum of the generator. The subdivision to
the south of us has 46 homes without power too. Driving around our area
has a few trees down, and some fences knocked over, nothing like what is
shown on the news for the east side of the state, or what Charlie did
    down south.
