  • unoperable tach

i just bought a 91 camaro rs and the guy who owned it before me did an engine swap. he went from a v6 to a LTI bored and stroked out to a 383 stroker. he could never figure out how to hook up the factory tach because it was for a v6. i was wondering if it could be hooked up or not. my gas gause has also not been working properly. sometimes it will work but sometimes it will pins itself to the right. i was wondering if this could be a stuck float or if it may be a loose connection on the gauge.

    thanks

I think you can hook up a stock 3rd gen tach to an LT1. I don't know how to do it, though. But, just so you know, 3rd gen (82-92 Camaro/Firebird) guages are notorious for being inaccurate and faulty.

The problem with your fuel gauge could be a stuck float, but more than likely it's the wiring from the gauge to the sending unit in the tank, or the sending unit itself.

Also, you might want to check out www.thirdgen.org , it's dedicated to 3rd gens. People on their have done LT1 swaps and can probably point you in the right direction for hooking up your V6 tach as well as your fuel gauge problem, if we can't figure it out on this forum. Good luck.
