  • Question on removing smog pump on a 95

If you disconnect and remove the smog setup on a 95 LT1, will it set codes on the computer? If so, can they be cleared?

Yes it will set a code. When the command for the AIR pump to turn on is set, the MAP sensor must see a change in pressure to verify the pump did in fact turn on...same goes for the EGR valve opening and closing...

You must reprogram the PCM in order to not set codes..

You seem to be confusing the AIR system with the EGR system. It's only the EGR system that blips the MAP pressure when it comes on. AIR only runs for a couple minutes at startup, and there is no connection whatsoever to the intake manifold/MAP.

In the 93-95's with OBD-I, the only diagnostic the PCM runs on the AIR pump is to make sure the power supply circuit is intact. That means you can unplug the AIR pump harness connector, and as long as there is a good fuse in the system, there will not be a code set, or an SES light.

OBD-II (96/97) has sensors to detect actual flow from the AIR pump, so you can't just pull the harness connector off, or you will get a code/light.
