  • 383 Camaro vs. zr-1 vette

Would I, in my 1985 Camaro 383 stroker (mods are in sig) have any chance, ANY at all against a 1992 ZR-1 Vette with the LT5 motor? I mean the one major thing i need to do is change my tires so i get traction and not sitting there spinning my tires. The reason i ask is because i have this kid in my college (mommy and daddy give him everything) and he has this stock ZR-1 Vette, and he is being nothing but a big mouth on how he can beat anything and anybody. He wants to race me for some big time ca$h. That specific year ZR-1 Stock came with 375 horse's and the 1/4 mile in 12.8 seconds. I am almost positive i can run the 1/4 in low 13's. His is also a full blooded manual. Let me know.

      I thought the 92 ZR-1 had 405 HP.

        92s had 375, they didn't go to 405 until 94 I believe.

I'd spray on him then u will for sure win if he is telling u the truth that he is bone stock. Make sure u see his money upfront tho, so u dont waste ur time and gas for nothing.

A buddy of mine had a '97 Z28 M6 with a few bolt on's, F1 tires and a 100 shot of spray. My brother raced him with his '91 ZR-1 (stock), and beat him by 2 cars.

ZR-1's are ferocious! Once they launch, they hook! Don't forget about those 315's in the rear! My brother ran a 12.87 @ 108 MPh at Great Lakes Raceway in Wisconsin, but that was back in '99 and no longer has the vette anymore.

We still have video and pictures of it, even his 12.87 run. That car was legendary.

I'll dig around for those pics and post them.

              btw, '90 - '92 375hp. '93 - '95 405hp.

just make sure if u do this u goto a race track and get a few runs in

make sure u put as much pressure on urself as u possibly can u get used to launching and stuff while u are nurvous..nothing like gettin the race all setup and bouncing off 3rd i did that in my dads mustang sigh..luckily my dads car was fast enough i could recover..but i still havent lived that s##t down lol

The ZR1 wasn't called the "King of the Road" until the 2nd gen Viper GTS came out for nothing. Those things are monsters and they have one heck of a kick on the top end and make good power all of the way to the 7,000RPM redline so you have to count on him hitting the trap in 3rd. Like what was said before...it will be a driver's race. ...and, unless you make some changes to the suspension...you are at a disadvantage. Those things stock will walk over significantly modified 4th gen f-bodies...if your car doesn't run high 12s and you win, the driver of the ZR1 couldn't drive their car.

If your gonna win a significant amount of money, do as noted above......nitrous. Even a 100 shot will drop your E.T. by a full second. SO, if your running low 13's as is, you could put it in the low 12 sec range with the juice. Just make sure you run it before hand. You ALWAYS run alot slower than you think your gonna at the track. You spin your tires for even .2 or .3 of a second and you lost the race......

                          You better hook.

If not, you're done before you realize it. My 95 ZR-1 was indeed a beast in the mid and upper rpms. I do miss that car.
