The decision between LT1 and LS1 is a budget issue. If you can afford it, get the LS1 it is hands down a better motor. It is all aluminum and has 6 bolt mains! I wish I had one. LS1 convertibles with 6 speeds are just too dang expensive!
The LT1 is no slouch, either. Both respond well to bolt ons.Tracy

I would say the LT1 man. Besides, if you can find an LS1 that cheap, I don't think I would want it. I have yet to see an LS1 that cheap that was in good condition. Just my 2 centavos.Steve

Steve took the words right out of my mouth. If you find an LS1 for $6500, it's probably not an LS1 you want. You can find an LT1 car in very nice condition for $6500, and of course on an f-body board no one is going to say eclipse.Dave M

ill say eclipse..i thought about a GSX a few months ago
great little cars if u can find one that has not been beat on to badly. the AWD is awesome also but it has its limitations
first u need to figure out what u want in a car do u want a tiny little car or a big car with a v-8 and RWD also are u going to race the car at all?? AWD launchs are pretty hilacious on the clutch
for a good GSX u are looking at 8-10k depends on milage ofcourse but use that as a good rule..for an equal amount of milage u can get an older Z for something like 6-8k..the Z will be older though so it may be hard to find one that doesnt have a ton of miles on it

well what are your goals for the car? Are you looking for a daily driver, or a street/strip car, auto-x, ect. It's difficult to say without knowing a lot of details but i have friends who have both f-bodies and 1st gen AWD DSM's. The cheapest ls1 f-body i have seen was $9,000 and i bought it. For $6,500 you will be limited to an lt1. If i'm not mistaken it was cheaper for my friend to make his AWD eclipse a high 11 sec car than an lt1 f-bod. But how well they held up over time was a different story....98 z-71 silverado white

I'm sorry but I hate DSM's. I can admit I've been spannked by two of them that friends owned and had huge turbos on. But now a year later my car still runs like new and both of theirs were sold with blown engines? Also even if you stay stock with it reliability is a huge issue with a lot of them. They have many cheap parts and use some of the weakest bolts I've ever seen. Its your call AWD can be a lot of fun in the corners or on a hard launch but be ready to put some money into the thing.1994 Firebird Formula, M6, Fan switch, 160 thermostat, Pacesetter LT headers, Morosso CAI, TB bypass, True duals.

LS1's dont sound as good as the LT1's! For that kind of budget, an LT1 is definetly the way to go! I wouldn't get too desperate in trying to get an LS1, because after all, it's just more factory power.
