well guys, i have a friend offering me a viper alarm with remote start for a really good price. I was just wondering how difficult if at all possible is this to hook up. I am a little worried that the chip in the key will cause a problem. Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated

Don't know how hard they are to install.
I'm on my third car with a remote starter (not Viper) and I had them all installed by the local car stereo place. They know how to do it and you get some warranty.
Unless you have some very good instructions you're better off having it done. That's my opinion.
Also be aware that remote starters don't work with standards.97 Trans Am A4 more or less stock (Mods: WS6 Ram Air with Fernco & K&N, 12 disc CD changer, power antenna, SLP Fan Switch, LS1 Aluminum DS, Borla Cat back, McCord power plate, Spohn tower brace, Sirius, HID fog lights)

Definitely have a pro do it. 99% of the shops will not put a remote start in a manual tranny car, but it is not impossible, as I have it on mine. The key transponder takes a separate part on some cars, so you definitely need to have it professionally installed."No, officer, that bottle is my onboard Halon system"

I installed a alarm/remote start on my 93 TA. It was a lot easier than I thought. THe only reason I would take it to a shop is not because of the remote start ( that was the easy part)but because of the door locks, I could never figure that one out. Something about our cars having reverse pulse or double pulse locks and the passenger side being the primary side. So I had to keep my old"stock" Key fob with my alarm fob and lock the doors when I set the alarm.
As for the chip in the key; I had to take my key off my key ring and leave it in the ignition ( I also had an "Electro-lock" system that came with the car, where I could remove the chip card (thereby cutting power to the starter) and it would not start even with the key. But I wired the remote start " behind" the "electro-lock" and it started fine. Then get in the car turn the key to the on position and your ready to roll. Don't ever have to put the chip card back in unless you want to start he car with the key.
I believe I have solved the above problem< I installed a resistor under the dash to compensate for the chip "vats" in the key. THe reason I say believe is because I took the alarm/ remote starter out because I thought it was causing my car not to start. Ended up being the Vats wire breaking in my steering column. Fixed with a resistor and it solved the problem, but haven't installed the alarm back. Probably will when winter comes back.
P.S. I have an auto tranny.
P.S.S Great way to impress girls and friends. And get a good laugh scaring innocent bystanders93 Trans Am; Hooker Cat-back;
