Sometimes when i am sitting at a red light or i am at idle my oil preesure guage needle starts to shack back and forth and my car starts to shack a little. When i start moving it completely stops. Does anyone know what this means. If so, any advice would be appreciated.

    thanks

shaking....when was you're last tune up???

    irratic needle...bad sender??? I don't know...I notice it on my car too..but I don't really care.

Our gauges aren't really accurate anyways...

If your engine is idling rough, the oil pressure is going to vary with the fluctuating RPM. Most likely its the rough idle causing the oil pressure to vary, not the other way around.

I am not really sure about the 3rd generation V6 but my 3.8L does it a little...

The oil pressure part, I'm not sure of but it could be the engine is under a slight load, because with my car at idle, press the gas slightly and the needle moves and doesn't come down right away when I release the gas...

The shake part is just because V6 is missing the V8's 3rd and 6th cylinders, in other words the 90 degree design of the V6 is meant for the V8 because the 8 cylinders counter balance it, however the V6 should have been a 65 degree engine because that is its perfect balance point.

Another reason all that could be going on, is because you might need a tune up or at least check the spark plugs, but if it is not missing (like mine wasn't missing or knocking, the mechanic said its just the design of the engine...)...

Still though I might ask around and search the internet and all, but that is the basics...

        Edit by MaraSport:
My uncle said that it is probably the exhaust system and oil that is the reason, but the mobil 1 supersyn is good but it might be the problem since the engine should not have as much friction on the cast iron block thus the car doesn't use the friction on the block to help in the counter balance, however that doesn't really explain the oil pressure part...

so should i first try to change the spark plugs to see if the shaking goes away or should i try something else?

I am an avid person that would like to never take his car to a mechanic unless I was unsure of something... With that said I probably would go to the dealership and have them run a diagnostic...

My motto is if it doesn't need fixing don't mess with it... And if it does need fixing, the dealer will definitely want to do it for you because of the money...
