  • Fuel System too lean question...

Took the car on a couple long trips since I've gotten back. It was in storage for 6 months and was started every week or two.

Anyway, I drove up to Cape Cod and the Bank 2 lean code came on. I erased it and the next day, both banks were running lean. I got some fuel system cleaner and ran a whole tank through on the way back, cleared the code, and everything was fine for a few days. Yesterday bank 2 was lean again, but the code cleared by itself after a couple starts.

Might this just be an O2 sensor going bad? I wonder since both banks came up as lean once. It does seem to idle a tad rough at times. I've driven it about 1000 miles since I've been back. Milage isn't bad, about 23 mpg on the highway and 18-19 city.

    Quick update...

The car's having a very hard time starting now. Difficulty turning over...It's going into the shop this morning to be looked at. I have a few things in mind on this problem, namely the starter of course. The battery's been good unless it hasn't been charging correctly. Could this be related to the recent codes or might that be a second problem?

Maybe a vacuum leak after the MAF?

        Suggestions:

        -give the exact code(s)

-check the long term fuel corrections. One or more of them is hitting 160 and the PCM is still not able to correct what it perceives as a lean condition.

-check the fuel pressure at idle and at WOT. Also check how long the pressure holds when you prime the pump but don't start the engine. All could show problems with the fuel pump or regulator.

        -check the engine grounds.

.....and the MAF readings. I had a bad MAF that was causing a lean condition a while back

Thanks guys! Lots of things to check.

The starting problem was separate. Battery was going bad after sitting for so long. I guess the car wasn't started as much or run as long as I had thought.

The surging is slight and apparent at idle. When driving and at WOT I don't see any difference performance wise...When I can muster up some time I'll get those readings.
