  • NFB: code 0751 problem, help please!

A co-worker of mine recently started having problems with the tranny in his 2000 Blazer. The symptms are a delayed shift on the 1-2 shift, and no reverse. When you put it in reverse, it acts as if in neutral. Engine revs freely and you can push the car... it is not in gear. Other gears seem to operate properly. The cruise control also recently went out, which may or may not be related. The SES light came on about a day after he began having problems with the tranny, I pulled the code for him and got 0751, "Shift Solenoid A Performance or Stuck Off." Does anyone know what this means in layman's terms? According to Shoebox's website, 0751 is related to the 1-2 shift.

    The patient is as follows:
2000 Blazer, auto tranny (4 sp), ~68,000 miles, tranny fluid full and pretty clean but has a slight burnt smell to it.

Any help would be appreciated! Is it rebuild time for him, or is this a simple fix?

I know someone with a 2000 S-10 that had a different trans code but it was about a Solenoid. I don't remember the number. His wouldn't shift into 4th (OD). It was a bad Solenoid. It cost like $20. He had to drop the pan and replace it. He said there were several Solenoids in it. Sounds like it might be one of them. I doubt this is any help.

It'd be great if it was a simple fix! Can Rob or Fred give me some more specific info on this?

Sounds like a simple solenoid problem. The best diag solution with those is to try to activate the sloenoid with a break-out box like the Trans-Tech or similiar, but that a tool usually reserved for tranny shops. You can get a scanner on it an watch to see what the PCM is doing. It could be a wiring problem or PCM issue, but I would just swap the solenoid out adn im about 80% sure thats your problem.

Does anyone know a part number for this solenoid, and how to locate it inside the tranny? We can try to swap it out and see if that helps, at least it'd get a tranny fluid change done in the process if nothing else.

Don't know the specifics of that tranny, but changing out the solenoid should not be too hard or expensive. The pan would have to come off. Some guidance from a manual for testing would be be helpful.

Well after looking for a couple of hours, I came across this.
                http://www.regalgs.org/obd2.htm
"DTC P0751 1-2 Shift Solenoid Valve Performance - No First or Fourth Gear"

                http://www.s10blazers.com/odb_type_ii_codes.htm
"P0751 Shift Solenoid A Performance or Stuck Off"

Now to find out which one is A.

I'm going to keep looking to try and find out which solenoid is bad.

Do a search for "Shift Solenoid A"

Sorry to leave you hanging, Ive been away from the forum for a few days. The solenoid is indeed under the pan and youll see the wiring from the connector on the outside of the trans going in. I would change both solenoids, but if you really just want to change A, then look at the wiring schematic to find out which one. If you cant figure it out from that, let me know, and I will make a phone call for you and ask the guru (my dad). He would know off the top of his head. This is a 4l60e right?
