  • Lifter easy to compress......

I got this from another guys thread. I've been having this similar issue with my Comp R's. A couple/few of them are very easy to compress with just a finger pressing on the pushrod end of the rocker. VERY spongy feeling.

Does this in fact signify a bad lifter??

Another question tied into this: If it is indeed a shot lifter, then the valvetrain actions would be less than normal, bringing less air into the motor, causing a rich condition to show up on a scanner, right?

hydraulic lifters use oil pressure. no oil pressure and easy to compress. if they are not giving you problems....why worry? are they bottoming out? under high rpm's? if not... dont worry.

Problem is that I'm chasing a phantom issue with the car loading up on fuel and have checked nearly everything, and I'm starting to run out of things to check. I've had one heck of a time trying to adjust my rockers, and even now, though they're close, they're still way off. It's only a couple of lifters that are easy to compress too. Some are uncompressable by hand it seems, while some are extremely easy to play with.

I had a unused, unoiled stock lifter in my hand two days ago, and with a pushrod it took nearly everything I had to compress it 1/4-1/3 inch down.

Ok, interesting note. I just went out there and checked a few, and NONE were able to be compressed. Interesting part is the car has been flying jackstands now for almost three weeks, so the lifters should be bled down.
