  • wide tires?

Has anybody had experience with wide tires on their f-body? I wanna get some corvette wheels that are 9.5 inches wide. Are they gonna rub or anything like that? Also, does anybody have any recomendations on wheel and tire combos? Thanks.

A 17X9.5" or 18X9.5" wheel will not rub, as long as the offset/backspace of the wheel is correct, and you use a tire that is not unreasonably wide, or of an outside diameter larger than the stock tire.

The stock wheel on the WS6 and SS 4th Gen coupes is a 17x9 55mm offset, with a 275/40-17 tire. As long as you keep the offset of a 9.5" wide wheel in the range of 45-56mm, it will not rub on a stock ride height vehicle.

There are 10.5" and 11" wide wheels available, and some of these MAY require a little hammering of the inner fender panels, cutting the projecting edge off the jounce bumper bracket and possibly even recentering the body over the rear axle with an adjustable panhard rod.

I run 17x9.5 56mm offset, 275/40-17 in the front. 17x11" 50mm offset, 315/35-17 in the back. There is no rubbing of any kind. The back inner fender panels have been hammered and the jounce bumper bracket cut.

Going from the stock 245/50-16's to the 275/40-17's was a major improvement in both straight-line and cornering traction. Going to the 315/35-17 BFG Drag Radials is almost enough for me to go WOT off the line on the street.

9.5's wont rub. go with 285/40/r17's. thats the perfect tire for that rim size.

I run the 285s on all 4 corners with 9.5 inch rims.

It has never rubbed. See the pic in my sig.

You should be okay with a 9.5 inch wide rim. You can run a pretty fat tire on the back if you really want to. My brother Slapped on some 305's on a 17x11 ZL1 rim. It only rubs when he corners hard. That can still be corrected by adjusting the Pan-Hard rod (I think thats what its called.) So its really on you as to how wide your willing to go/and want.
