If I get tuning done do I need to pick up a LT4 KM or can that be tuned out?

Get the module. No it can't be tuned out.

I may be wrong, I don't think you can tune it out. It's the sensor/module itself that's not too accurate in reading noise vs. real knock. The LT4 KM is cheap anyway. I think I got mine for $30 from Jason Cromer.

The LT1 PCM can be programmed to completely ignore the KM, but for a street car it would not be wise.

Have you determined that you are for sure experiencing knock retard (timing being retarded due to the knock sensor reporting knock)? If you aren't experiencing KR currently, I wouldn't worry about the LT4 KM, unless you have or plan on adding roller rockers or headers.

If a scanner in fact shows that you are experiencing KR, then the LT4 KM might be worth a try.

I do not know if I'm experiencing knock or not. I just put on a set of LT's and am going to run a decently loud exhaust. I'm going to hook it up to the computer when I get I'm done getting the exhaust put on it. I ran it with open headers for a little bit when I finished up and noticed it really stumbled under 2k rpms I know that was partially from not much back pressure but was also thinking that it may really be getting a lot of false knock. I guess I'll know when I hook it up but if I am I should just get the KM?

I would highly suggest it...it is cheap enough, and as you said, the headers are loud...the LT1 KM will probably report false knock. BTW, did you have both O2s back in? Any SES light? The only way to truly tell about the stumble is to read the PCM, but I'm 99% sure the open headers+LT1 KM is the cause.

You were most likely getting some KR, especially with the open headers.

Even though the actual knock sensor is surrounded by engine coolant, it is stll very sensitive to harmonics that are transferred through the block to the sensor. With the obvious noise level from open headers , you were likely getting KR from the harmonics of the noise levels.

See how everything goes when you run it with the full exhaust installed. If a scanner is still showing KR, then give the LT4 KM a try.

Thanks for the help fastta and craig. I'm just going to wait till I can hook it up to my computer then and see what its reading. And yes I had in the 02's and didn't get a SES light. I was also thinking that maybe the 02's didn't get warm enough since they are in the primary's and there isn't much pipe after them. BTW if I wouldn't get pulled over or shot by one of my neighbors lol I'd leave my car open headers it sounds like a Nascar right now lol.
