Well... I blew up my tranny... as, before I bought the car, someone stole the 700r4 (right?) outof it, (83 TA) and replaced it with a TH200, doh! heh.. so it ran for a little while then died... I just bought the car, and got a 3 month warranty covering the drivetrain for a max claim of 1000...

Engine wise, it's just the stock 305 in it right now, but chances are i'll swap that over to another smallblock, as a friend of mine has a 355 in a car he just crashed, (lol) or maybe even a 400, if i can find one w/ some low miles...

Since the tranny is being pulled, and I've got the warranty coverage of 1000 towards it.. ofcourse, i'll be using this to my maxiumum potential as an oppertunity to get a nice upgrade, what would you guys suggest?

I'm thinking of just getting the R4 back inside, (unless you've got better ideas?) and a nice shiftkit, but as far as shiftkits go, i really... don't know too much.. heh
like I said, everything is stock (sofar anyways) but i would like to be able to make the mods one step at a time, but yet not too subtle so i'll have to get back and upgrade something a second time meaning, since i've got access, should i swap the gears out? anyone know what comes stock in the 83 transam?

forgive me for my ignorance.. heh, i try.
any questions, comments and tips appreciated!

    thanks!

Which trans. is going back in the car? A 200R4 or a 700R4? Either can be made to handle more power and shift kits are available for either. A lot of people seem to like Transgo shift kits over most other companies, like B+M for example. I hear that it's not too hard to install a shift kit, but I have personally never done it (yet ).

You can swap the gears out if you want. But first it's wise to know exactly what rear end your dealing with. Get the RPO codes from the car (they should either be located in the rear locking storage area or under the center console door) and decode them over at www.thirdgen.org . That should tell you the ratio, etc. It would also be a good idea to take the rear cover off and see if you have a 9-bolt or a 10-bolt, by counting the ring gear bolts. Parts for 9-bolts are harder to come by, just so you know. Let us know what you find out.

    Good luck!

as to what will be going in the car.. I'm not quite sure, which way i would go, it was a 700r4, orginally that is.

but sure, i'll check to see if its a 9 or 10 bolt.
      thanks!

I personally think you should just stick with a 700R4. There are plenty of "go fast" parts for 700R4s and plenty of manufacturers that make beefed-up, complete 700R4s, too.
