  • SLP Customer Appreciation Day

Anyone going to the SLP Customer Appreciation Day on October 9th in Englishtown, NJ? From what I understand if you want to race, it is a muffler event only, so my SLP LM breaks the rules I might go to check out the racing between the F-Bods and the Mustangs. Guess i'll leave the car in the parking lot Click on Drag Schedule, 10/9 ETown Link

Take it to "tech" and see what they say. If they think you are too loud, they will make you rev it to 5,000rpm and measure the noise level at 100-ft. It has to be 90dB or less. You will probably pass. They will then supposedly check it again under full power at the track, and if you are over the limit, they can ask you to leave the track (but stay for the show).

Two or three years ago, they threw the SLP LS1 "mule" off the track and made them park it, when SLP uncapped the cutouts. Two years ago, they passed me with nothing more than a Borla XR-1 shorty bolted to each header collector - no exhaust at all. Then last year, they changed the rule to require that the exhaust dump at least behind the rear edge of the drivers door, so I added pipes back that far, with turndowns. They never even heard the car run in tech, since it was still on the trailer. But this year they have revised the rules again, to outlaw "collector" mufflers, and require that any muffler have at least 2 baffles in it. I'm not even going to try and pass.

In defense of the E'town track, they are under huge pressure from nearby millionaires with big $$$ who are trying to shut them down for excessive noise.

I thought they waived the restriction for the Loudmouth for this event...I remember hearing something about that over the loudspeaker last year.... As Fred stated, you should be OK.

I think with just about any type of full cat-back, probably including even the Loudmouth, you should be OK. With the Borla, make sure you have the block-off plate, in case they decide the "wide-open" plate is too loud.

If you know anyone with a Radio Shack noise meter, you can check to see if you pass 90dB or less at 100-feet. I think they use the "C" weighting and "slow" response. You can get the specifics of the noise test on the E'town website.
