i am on my second opti in 4 months. the problem is the connector that goes into the opti from on top of the engine on the passager side seems to be corroding on the connector that goes into the opti. on the first opti 3 months old it was so bad that the leads broke off from the corrosion. the corrosion is blue like kind of looks like battery acid. well today i was driving home car stalls i get it resarted and the tach goes nuts this was my telltale sign that i had the same problem from before. so i unplug the connector and sure enough the corrosion is back this is a new wire from next to intake to opti and a new opti replaced both at same time. does anyone know what might cause this could it be a bad ground or maybe something got inside water or a chemical maybe, i did use belt dressing on the belt with both opti(just a thought) what can i do to prevent, will electrical grease work, i went and bought some tonight thank you in advance. ps opti and wire 1 month old.

Yours is the third case of this happening that I have heard about.

My initial reaction is that the battery may be "venting" from excessive charging, and you are getting copper sulfate buildup on the connector pins.... copper in the wire + sulfur from the battery.

However, it seems odd that this would happen. I am also wondering if this is some sort of strange oxidation of the connector wires/pins by the ozone that is generated inside the Opti case from the high voltage discharge. The vent system was added to the 1995 models, out of concern for ozone builup and the resulting corrosion. Is your vent system properly connected? Have you verified the little filter is not plugged up and the check valve is installed in the correct direction?

I had this happen to me on a 6 month old OPTI. I had the shop put silicone dielectric tune up grease on it. That was over a year ago and it hasn't been a problem since.

You need to get all of the corrosion out of the connector before you reuse it. I would suggest replacing the harness. The dealership did on mine both times. Thank goodness the second one was under warrantee.

Clean the contacts with electonic contact cleaner, follow up with some dielectric grease to seal the harness connection and reassemble.

Since the water pump is located above the opticrap, could it be possibly it is driping over the opti?
            Just a guess...
            Good luck
