Thats pretty funny. It's a great place to vacation in, but you couldnt pay me to live there.
I have heard people say that the tornados we get here make it just as bad, but that is not true. You can live up here in the midwest for your entire life and likely never see a tornado. The chances of one destroying your house are even less. I dont know anybody that has ever lost their home to one. The last one that I can even remember doing major damage to a city was almost 20 years ago in Barneveld.
The chances of a huricane destroying your house in Florida at somepoint over the period of your life are much higher. If you live near the water, it is almost a guarantee. It is similar to a 50 year flood plain. The question is not "if", it is "when". All we can do is hope nobody gets hurt.
New Orleans is also a ticking timebomb. That is another city that I would never own property in. That place will most likely be under water someday. They keep getting lucky, but that luck will eventually run out. I hope everybody gets out with their lives when the day comes.Tracy

While the people in the North-East can be pretty obnoxious, its very overcrowded, the pace of life it ridiculously hectic, and prices are high, we don't have too many natural disasters. I've been through a tornado in Texas ($25K damage, insured), along with some huge floods in Houston, and experienced "up close and personal" the 6.9 Northridge earthquake in CA ($70K net loss on equity in house). The fires a year or two ago were licking at the edges of the neighborhood I used to live in, in Valencia, CA. That was enough. Back to the East coast seemed like a good idea.... of course, the further you can get from NYC, the better things get as far as the people being more friendly, the prices dropping, congestion easing, etc.Fred

i think if i was to move away from TX, i'd probably end up either in Colorado (near the mountains for snowboarding, of course), or up in Washington state, probably up around Seattle. Nevada (around Reno or Vegas) is possible, but not likely. if i was to move totally out of the country, it would probably be B.C., Canada.

Having moved away from Texas for going on 3 years now, I am very ready to go back. I miss it way too much. Haven't ever been hit by a tornado. (Knock on wood) I have never been any place that I would rather live than Texas....gotta love it.
