  • rough idle, stalls when i give it gas

    car = 91 firebird, v6, 3.1L

    well ive been at this car for a few months now, i am up to the point where i can get her started, then surge to 1100 RPM, then drop to 500 and stay there, the second i give her gas she stalls, i have replaced map sensor, cap and rotor, wires, plugs, TPS sensor,ECM (yes i switched proms) ignition coil, ignition modual, coolant temp sensor, cleaned injectors, check fuel pressure (45PSI), but i still think its my map sonsor, i used a test light on the ground, got light, used it on constant and pulse, no light, ne one know where these wires go to so i can check out the other end, pic would be nice but if not o well, thanks for help in advance, o yeah also getting codes 33 and 35

    Well, let's see what I can dig up.

    Code 33- MAP sensor-Leaking or restricted vacuum hoses; poor electrical connection, open or short in circuit; defective MAP sensor; defective ECM

    Code 35- Idle speed control-TPS sticking or misadjusted; poor electrical connection, open or short in circuit; defective IAC valve; defective ECM

    The surging and cutting off sounds a lot like an IAC valve problem to me, which code 35 suggests. Have you taken the IAC valve off at any time or have you cleaned it or the IAC passages on the throttle body recently? If not, then do that first. Check for vacuum leak or restrictions.

    I can't send you a whole wiring diagram, but I do know that for the MAP sensor, the black wire leads to a ground on the ECM at pinout B6, while the light green wire goes to the ECM at F15 and the gray wire leads to the ECM at A4. DOes this make sense to you?

    Oh, one more thing, check out www.thirdgen.org . It's dedicated to 3rd gens and they even have their own V6 board. If I'm not here, I'm there .
