  • FL State Trooper dies while pursuing in his Z28 patrol car...

Absolutly horrible crash, looked like he lost control and drove straight into a tree at well over 100 mph. The tree he ran into made it all the through the car to the back seat. What was he pursuing? A late model sport bike that was racing a porsche 911 down I-4 at speeds estimated by witnesses to be 140. The news report listed his car as a patrol car capable of top speeds of 165 mph and can go from a standing start to 100 miles an hour in 14 seconds. Several annonymous patrolmen are quoted as saying "these cars are too quick, too fast" for the one day worth of 'specialized training' they have to receive to get these cars; many patrolmen have turned away from the oppurtunity to drive the 2002 Z28s and have said they are too dangerous for the road. High-speed 'floating' may have been a major contributer to the crash.

Incidentally, the driver of the porsche, which at this time still can not be found, will not be charged with anything because he turned off of I-4 the exit before Trooper Graham engaged the bike. The driver of the bike is being held on 2nd degree fleeing and eluding charges - for now.

The pictures of that car wrapped around the tree - I wish every street racing kid with ANY kind of car could see them. If State Troopers with years and years and years of intense experience hanlding their cars can have accidents, so can you. Be careful all.

Here's a link to that story. They were saying he had a tire blowout.

Sounds like I have more experience handling my car above 100 mph than they do...

That's always ashame to hear. There's no reason to flee the police, you're just endangering yourself as well as many others. Some people are just idiots though. I'm glad to hear he was caught, but the price was too high. I wonder what kind of tires were on the Z

Man that stuffs crazy. Somthing like that in Ohio a few years ago. A cruiser was pusuing a 3rd gen. firebird at 100+MPH. The cruiser lost control on I-71 or I-75 i cant remember which and lost control of the car and wrecked big time. The cruiser was totaled and the firebird got away. Like you said teenagers need to get alot of experience before they go off racing and screwing aorund on the highway while putting others lives in danger.

I used to think that too until I had a blow out of my right front tire at 35 miles an hour and sideswiped a concrete embankment. $1800 in damage to my Z later I don't think about racing it on the road so much anymore. Lesson: Accidents happen everyday, to everyone, regardless of their skill...

It was on 275 on the west side of Cincy. He was pursuing a red 3rd Gen at over 100 mph, thru a construction zone. I never did hear if the trooper got out of the hospital or recovered.

That was a crazy situation. I have some friends with red Trans Ams who were questioned about it, but they all have 4th Gens. I don't think they ever found the red 3rd Gen.
