I have never tried flowmaster exhausts, but I have seen alot of people saying they hate them and they suck. Why do they suck so much?

I think its because the 3 chambered exhaust plus the crossflow design of the f-body muffler is not a good couple. I personally love the way they sound but am gonna try and hook up a 40 series muffler to my car, which is a conventional flow muffler. Hopefully someone else will be able to explain better though.2006 Saturn Ion Redline

I stayed away simploy because they rust inside out! That and I've heard they rob HP...robbing HP is a no no in my books...that's enough for my to back away - not today.

I have a friend who has had a flowmaster for over 3 years now, and his is perfectly fine. I've heard that any aftermarket muffler will give you an increase in hp, just that some are better then others. But then again i never dynoed any either. I guess the choice is yours2006 Saturn Ion Redline

I think the general consensus is that Flowmaster is a good exhaust company, but there are much better companies out there. I have also heard that Flowmasters rob a little HP, but any high-flow muffler or cat-back will be better than stock.
I personally don't like Flowmaster. I have a Flowmaster cat-back on my car, and my car sounds more like a redneck's out-of-tune truck (which there are plenty of down here
) than a Camaro. On the other hand, though, one of my friends has a Flowmaster cat-back on his 97 Z28, and it sounds pretty good. Go figure.

When I bought my car the exhaust was all rusted out. I told the dealer I would not buy it unless they replaced it. I ended up getting them to put on a flowmaster with a cutout (my buddy works at the shop it was replaced at). I think the car had more HP when i test drove it than with the cutout on. With the cutout off it has much more power. If you are gonna go with a Flow, be sure to get a cutout.Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside thoroughly used up and totally worn out, loudly proclaiming......WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!

I'm torn. Sometimes i love my exhaust but these times are few and far between. I just don't see the point in having a loud car. I'd rather be stealthy and not draw attention to myself. Tons of people comment on my car (which i'm not used to at all) and everyone loves my exhaust. I never put it in 6th gear on the highway because it causes my service engine light to come on. I usually cruise at about 63 MPH at around 2100 or 2200 RPM's on the parkway. I keep it in 5th the whole time i'm on the parkway. The exhaust tone drones on and on. It's like the Telltale Heart. It keeps going until it drive you insane. The worst is in the morning or late at night though when i know people are sleeping. I try to be considerate but it's impossible with my Flowmaster set up. I usually shift at 3000 RPM's and no matter how light i am on the gas, it sounds like i'm hammering it at full throttle or something. If you're into speeding or anything, DEFINITELY stay away from a loud exhaust system. If the cops can't see you, they'll hear you.Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!

Wow...slowmaster,sorry that was uncalled for! Flowmaster has been around for a very long time. Back in the late 60s even! Every single person with a camaro had flowmaster. If they didn't have flowmasters...they had Crager. yes thats right...Crager didnt onlymake Rims back then. They also made exhaust systems and even headers. I'm sure some of the older members on here can remember this.
Flowmaster are a really good, INEXSPENSIVE exhaust system to REPLACE your RESTRICTIVE factory exhaust. It's impossible for flowmaster to hurt performance over your stockpieces of sh!t....most of you who have long tubes know what I'm talking about. If you say it does hurt performance...I want to see dynos graphs.
If you really want a nice exhaust system just build your own! X or H pipe, followed by some bullets dumpped before the the rear axle. or just run open header...
Oh yeah, flowmasters are VERY drone on the highway.1996 Z28 body, the rest...drag car

I think there's a lot of urban legend regarding the Flowmasters, and the legends are based on some outdated "flow tests" that showed the particular Flowmaster they happened to test as on the weak side. But there are many different models of Flowmaster mufflers, and the 30-series is pretty much the standard for the 4th Gen when used with a 3.5" or 4" Mufflex catback. I've seen firsthand a dyno comparison of a 4" Mufflex/Flowmaster catback to a "collector muffler" setup on a 1,125HP LT1, and there was no difference in HP with the catback in place compared to simple Borla XR1 collector mufflers. I had similar results when I removed my 4" Mufflex/Flowmaster setup. The only "gain" was shedding 50# of extra weight.Fred

Are you serious??? There was no difference from the cat back to xr1s?!?!?!?! Maybe once you hit a certain point in HP and TQ, it doesn't matter how fast the air can flow out of the pipes....get my drift?1996 Z28 body, the rest...drag car

Befor I sold my Trans AM, the Flowmaster developed a large hole smack in the bottem center, SO... I got a pair of custom head pipes made and bought one of the new Texas Motorsports X-pipe True Dual Systems.......HOLY GOD. That was the badest exhust I have ever heard behind a LT1. But leave the cats at home.1967 VW Bug 2.3L Ford SVO Inline 4 w/ Turbo, Sand-Drag VW Trans Axle, Race this Import.
