On my way in to work, I take M-5. M-5 is a brand new, 4 lane divided parkway that is about 4 miles long before it merges in with I96/I696/I275. It is the newest road in the forever expanding "suburban sprawl". Due to its width, good condition, and lack of traffic lights, most drivers treat it like a freeway. The actual speed limit is 50, but 60 mph usually gets you passed pretty routinely.
So this morning, I am coasting along at 57-58, and actually keeping up with traffic. I come over a hill, and about a 1/2 mile up, I see a man standing by a dark-colored car. COP! Sure enough, he's standing there with a laser gun zapping all of us who are approaching. Being one of the lead cars, I became a bit concerned and slowly dropped under 55. We all slowed down to this speed. Except for one girl. I watched her in my rearview mirror never react, never slow down, never acknowledge that the police officer was there. She continued right on past me at about 62 or so mph... until she was about 50 feet in front of the cop. Then she put on her brakes. Well, I watched the cop put his laser away, get into his car, and join the flow of traffic. Soon enough, he had caught up to the oblivious girl and pulled her over.
How oblivious do you have to be to not notice a cop car parked on the left side of the road with a man standing and shooting his radar gun at traffic... not only that, but to pass other cars which have seen him and slowed down!
She got what she deserved, IMHO.
