headlight motors

I just bought a 98 ws6 and the other day, when i put the headlights down, they would make like a vibrating noise after they were already down. I took it to the dealer and they said that it needed new headlight motors, and they werent covered on the warranty and that it was going to cost $510 to fix them. I was talking to some people, and they said that there is a way to flip the gear around and fix them. I was wondering if any one has heard about this, or if u have any tips they would be appreciated. thnx.

DIY fix

couldn't you put a 4" attenuator motor or whatever on it to make it go up and down? ive seen it done on gloveboxes.

u probably could, but the problem is, that the gear inside the motor gets stripped. So, the motor is still good. oh ya, i fixed the headlights this morning, in about an hour and a half. the dealer wanted $510, what a rip off!

Yup, know you know how the dealorships really make their money. FYI, I flipped the gear in my headlight motor 3 years ago and it worked great until last month. This time I ordered the brass gear for a more permenant fix. Many thanks to Brent Franker.

ya, thats what i plan on doing when this side goes, ill just get the brass ones

I tried flipping my gear, it didn't work..it was boogered
cuz the teeth broke off and there causing problems.

So I broke it open, and figured out how to mount
it so it wouldn't hit..I also cleaned out the broken
teeth.
