  • New to Forum, & Question on Books...

Hey folks, this is my third post ever. I am heavily considering a WS6 or a Camaro SS. (Found a WS6 for sale, 14k miles for 20,995) Without my friend's discount at the dealer it would be 24k. Anyway I am heavily obsest with cars, and I want to know more information. Can any of you please recomend some good books that teach you alot of stuff? I am looking to learn information, a complete how to manuels aren't realy what Im looking for (i.e. How to debagde.)

Thanks alot for ur info, and you guys on this forum are realy cool. Pleasure to have found this website

    EDIT: Info bout myself
Im 18, drive a 98 ford escort zx2 nicknamed POS.
Hence why I need a new car
I work as a cook at a hospital full time, start college at University of Maine in January for automotive technician.

I've found some books on F-bodies before, but sometimes, the content isn't always correct...

If you want to learn about F-bodies the best way is to own one...you'll learn about them really fast...because they take some maintainence...

Other than that you can surf the web...most of the info you learn will be repeated over and over again elsewhere...

If you want to learn about cars in general, I recommend the Automotive Encylopedia...I think that's what's it called. I used that to study when I was in auto tech in high school...great book, a lot of how to and details...

But if you can't get your buttom into a seat of an F-body at the moment and want to learn as much as you can...you came to the right place.

Thanks alot for ur info guys. And thanks for the welcome. Im too afriad to mess with my f-body when I purchase one. (I have the money, but want to wait till spring, pointless to buy a car in the winter if u garage it all winter). Going to keep my POS and use it only for heavy winters. Anyway, I know a crapload if info, but not how to apply it. For example I dont know how to change my oil or nothing

EDIT: automotive enecylopedia? Is it one book or an entire encyclopedia? and I need to learn about ALL cars in general, not only F-bodies. do you mean this encyclopedia?

Automotive Encyclopedia: Fundamental Principles, Operation, Construction, Service, and Repair (Goodheart-Willcox Automotive Encyclopedia)
its like 70 bucks o well books ARE expensive any hoot. sounds like it has tons of info. Just noticed it was published in 2000. Is it up to date enough to be worth buying?

Damn, this thing let me edit my post 8 times

For really basic info on how the various parts of a car work, go to "howstoffworks.com", and look for their "Auto" section. If you can tolerate the pop-ups and extraneous advertising, the info is good.

For very basic, step-by-step on doing most auto maintenance work, the Chilton's F-Body manual is pretty decent.

For basic performance related discussion, this site has some good stuff:

Since your going to college for Auto Tech., go ahead and get the book(s) that you need for it. Those books are a great source for information. I'm in college for Auto Tech. myself (i'm in my 4th semester right now, only 1 more to go ) and our book is called Modern Automotive Technology. Tons of info and it's set-up good. The chapters are set up in a great way too. One chapter will deal with (for example) suspension, and will go through all different kinds of suspension set-ups and parts, then the chapter right after that one will deal with how to diagnose/service/repair/replace those suspension components. Good luck!

You may want to look into buying an f-body right now. It'll be cheaper than trying to buy one in the spring since cars have a much lower demand this time of year.
