I've installed alarms and keyless entry boxes, but never a remote starter. I've read the instructions on one, and was actually going to help my buddy put it in his G/F's car, but we decided to let a shop do it instead. It looks like too much messing around for what the shop would charge to do it. It's a "science project".

I have a valet car starter made by DEI in my Cutlass it works pretty good. It was in the car when I bought it, they are pretty handy mine works good from 100ft, the new Valet starters should work from 300+ ft.

DEI pretty much runs the show when it comes to that stuff, they are the parent company of most of the brands that are out there.

It is very involved, and I highly recommend letting a pro do it. All the parts do NOT come in the box, as it takes different pieces to integrate into different vehicles. On GM, you have to have a passkey bypass, or bypass whatever theft deterrent you have on the car, and you need extra relays at a bare minimum. If you miss one wire, you could literally cause upwards of $5000 in damage. This is 14 years of experience speaking here, definitely let a pro do it.

Well, if you're looking for brands, consider what alarm the car has on it. If its factory, why not get an aftermarket with the remote start? I've got the Viper 791 on my Z and love it. The Responder remote never ceases to impress others, just can't use the remote start due to the 6-spd. Definitely a good buy though.

I doubt it. I dont think any shop would want to be responsible for the kid that gets killed when your car runs them over after you press the start button with it in gear. Not a good idea.

i read about some newer cars that have it with a manual, the only way it will do it is with the car in reverse, i dont know why. it didnt really go into the mechanics of it.

Well, I havn't gottin my DEI remote start to work right yet. It won't reconizes the tach, so it keeps the starter spinning for about a 2 secs after it's running. So I haven't been using it. as far as installing it, I didn't think it was that hard. I installed everything at once and by everything I mean the remote start, window module(which is great, it moves the windows up and down faster then stock and on the driver side controls it's one touch up and down for both sides.). Which those are all tied into my 6 channel shave handle kit.

                          ch 1 is driver door
                          ch 2 is pass door
                          ch 3 is rear hatch
                          ch 4 is remote start
ch 5 is both windows down
ch 6 is both windows up

Everything works perfect except the remote start. which I've tried injector pulse wire, I've tried the wire goin to the tech, tried the tach wire going into the PCM, None work.

TruckMuddr, DO NOT USE YOUR REMOTE START ANYMORE!! You will eat up your starter, and if you did not engage EVERY wire in the harness, you will burn up that 4L60E. That's the kind of stuff that I was talking about. You need to get a cheat sheet from DEI. It will tell you every wire you have to energize, and where to get the tach wire. You also have to "learn" the tach to the alarm brain. If you don't do that, it will never start right, even if you do have the right wire.

BTW, you can put a remote start on a 6 speed. I have it. However, like others said, you will not ever get a shop to do it unless you have an EFI car with a manual tranny that comes with a factory neutral safety switch in it, which is next to impossible to find. If you need to know if your car has it, put your car in neutral, and try to crank it WITHOUT pushing in the clutch. If it starts, you have a neutral safety switch wire and it can be done. But I have yet to find a vehicle that had that option.
