I'll comment on the size. 315/35 17s and 275/40 17s. That gives you the same rolling diameter as stock tires.

Define how you plan to use the car. What is most important to you - dry straight line traction, cornering traction, is the car ever driven in the rain, how important is tread life, are the tires ever used at the track, is noise level important, ride comfort, is the car a daily driver, weekends only, ever driven in snow, etc.

When you've decided what is important, go to Tire Rack, go to the "search by size" and put in the sizes you are interested in - I agree with Norman on the choices. You will get, for example 50 different 275/40-17's to choose from. 29 are "street tires", 21 are "competition tires". Pick the ones in your price range (from $109 - $297 each) and look at the "Reviews", "Test Results" and "Survey Results" and find how each tire rates against the competition. Do the same for 315/35-17 - 21 to choose from, 6 street and 15 competition, ranging from $151 - $377 each.

Only negative is that Tire Rack does not sell Nitto, and they seem to be fairly popular.

      I chose 275/40-17 BFG g-Force T/A KDW's for the front and 315/35-17 BFG g-Force T/A Drag Radial 2's for the rear.

thanks fred and norman....need tires for straight line traction , never driven in the rain, tread life not important, no track use just street ,ride comfort is important, not a daily driver, weekends only, never driven in snow. you guys rule. need to do some reading
