  • I never thought I'd see the day.....

As most of you probably know, I'm selling my WS6. I think I'm close to a deal and I've been looking at also selling my piece o' crap daily driver and just getting a new, decent, nothing-fancy daily driver to get me around. I never thought I'd hear myself say the words, but I'm considering a Kia! The Kia Spectra 5, to be exact. It's very cheap (which is what I need), and comes with nice standard features for the price, and I've heard good reviews of them. I'm going to test drive one tomorrow, although any new car would probably wait until next spring. I've also considered the Mazda 3 because I can get employee pricing from Ford. I've actually driven the Mazda, but not not a single Kia yet. Does anybody have any experience with the new Spectra?

What could possibly be a problem bad enough that you have to sell a WS6 AND another car just to buy a Kia? It's a shame to go down in the world. It's like going from sirloin steak to hamburger. It's like going from Pammy Sue to a sheep. It's like going from being a knight in armour to a lowly knave. Oh, well, you get my drift. Hope you change your mind.

Money is what makes me trade down. Chances are I won't even be able to afford the Kia and I'll have to put another 228,000 miles on the Toyota.

My boss owns a Kia and swears by it. Every time he thinks about the thing, he starts swearing. Based on what I hear from him, you would be better off with something else. I have an Accord and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it. Not a rocket by any means, but a good solid car that you could put lots of miles on.

              Hahaha - that's pretty funny.

Honestly though, Dave, I'm sorry about your predicament and hope things get better in the future. I'm even having my own bad run of luck, although on a lesser scale. After nearly killing my car by accidentally turning the water pump off before a high-speed blast on the interstate a couple months ago, I wasted several days trying to figure a rattly exhaust & I finally discover that my replacement Random hi-flow converter has chunked in the inside, so i take it off and knock it out with a pipe. Then I jack up the exhaust a little to better clear the frame brace in back and all seems well. Coming back from a car show, I take a LH turn a little hot and my electric cutout cracks off against the inner fender and the tire. Seems my new exhaust adjustment put my gearmotor/valve in harms way and it was half destroyed. I spend $40 at Grainger and 4 hours to get it back like new only to discover that when it got jammed up, it took out the 315 drag radial by making a pinhole in the side wall causing a slow leak. I'm wondering what's going to be next in the chain of events...

my mom owns an '03 spectra...everytime i drive it i always manage to get p*ssed off. I just dont like it. At 25,000 miles, the front brakes went. It's now at 32,000, and the rear brakes are done with. Also, for about the past 1,500 miles, i've suspected that the tranny is starting to slip a bit. I wouldn't buy one if i were you. It blows that you have to sell your WS6, and i'm sure if there was anything you could do to keep it, you would. But if you must sell it, get a car that is fun to drive and dependable. If you can, get a mini s. One of my friends had that before he totaled it, 6 speed, 0-60 in about 6.7, handles like a little go-kart, fun as h*ll to drive to tell you the truth.
black 95 t/a, a4, beefed up tranny w/ higher stall converter, transgo shift kit, trans temp gauge, trans cooler, richmond 3.73's, loudmouth, hypertech programmer, 160 thermo, descreened maf, TB bypass and airfoil, trick flow intake elbow, underdrive pulleys, moroso cai, edelbrock panhard rod, bmr stb, slp sfc's, fiberglass firehawk hood, hawk pads, taylor wires, ngk plugs, royal purple fluids,...and hopefully more to come

Autoweek had a good write-up about the redesigned 05 Spectra 5, and gave it good marks. And it comes with a 100,000 miles warranty, so if there are any problems, at least they will be covered. I don't think my Kia dealer has received any 05's yet. I'm still gonna see what Ford can do for me on a Mazda 3. I liked it when I drove it.

The problem with the KIA and Hyundia is that in a few years it will be worth alot less than what you owe on a regular loan..... that will be a real kick in the ....

Just get a decent used something, not too old, with low miles.

Pete is right. My friend bought a brand new hyudai accent a little over a year ago. It is now worth only about $5800-$6000 but he still owes about $10,000. The resale value just sucks with these cars. I think the only way to get your moneys worth out of these cars is to drive em till the wheels fall off. If you're intent on buying one of these get a slightly used one and let someone else pay all that depreciation. A better Idea would be to buy a slightly used Sentra, Civic, or Corolla. These are much better cars and will hold there value well. Whatever you decide good luck....Later

This is more of a problem than people realize. Some financial institutions will not finance a Hyundai or a KIA becuse of the incredible rapid depreciation. one of my employees went to a all brands dealership and was declined financing on a Hyundai without 50% down. He then inquired as to why and the whole scenerio was explained to him and that most any other brand that he chose would be approved with far lees money down. Evidently the banks know that to be upside down on a little tin can from Korea is not a good idea. Take the hint from them........ He is now driving a new Crossfire with less money down and the financing went through almost immediatly.
