It has 213,000 kilometers on it. Not to be confused with miles! I really am fond of this car, I am currently 15... I'm praying to god, and crossing my fingers that it isn't sold by next month. I want the car now, I've asked my parents for a loan, I'm still trying to convince them this car is good... I think I'm going to test drive it soon.

Those pictures are of me and my mom checking it out, and BTW the price has been raised to 1750. AND THIS IS CANADIAN. That's 1397 american...

Help me out, I hope to become an active member of this board if I get this car.

First off, welcome to the boards!

What do you need help with? That car looks pretty good for the year and mileage of it. Try and get as much info as you can about it before you buy it, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some wiring and/or leaking issues (almost every old car in the world has these ). You should definetely test drive it, like you mentioned, that will give you a good feel of how the cars running and it's overall condition. It looks like it will need some work, but if your mechanically inclined I'd bet you can fix it yourself (for example, the headlights are stuck in the "up" position). Do you have any pictures of the engine?

Good luck, but try not to get too attached to it before you buy it, trust me, sometimes it's easy to overlook big problems because you want it so bad (I'm guilty of this).

I agree that it looks pretty good for an 83. But, dont go on looks alone. You can pick up third gens for cheap. $1400 (U.S.) is a reasonable price, but its not a steal. So, if it walks away before next month, dont worry. There will be another.

I work with young people all day long (scary ) and one thing I have realized is that a lot of them (including myself at one time) get attached emotionally to the idea of getting a certain car. They get so excited about it that they fail to see its flaws. This is the one advice I will give you. Dont get attached until after its in your driveway. LOOK for the flaws and STUDY to see how much its going to cost you to fix. DOnt look the other way at a mushy transmission (just an example) and think it will last a while, because that could be an expensive mistake. You know what im gettting at. Be reasonable and remember that theres ALWAYS another one.

I just (2 weeks ago) drove 6 hours to pick up a mercedes benz I bought on ebay. When I got there, I realized the guy had been lying through his teeth about the car. I declined it, got my money back and inisisted on money for gas. You know what - I found a car that SAME WEEKEND that was a hundred time nicer for only a couple hundred more. Im driving it now and I love it.

Hey, I'm curious. What was wrong with the car? What did he lie about?

I was going to post this story, but its long and not too many seemed interested in my waste vegetable oil conversion. Anyways, I went down to N.J. to buy a 1980 Mercedes 300SD for 1200 dollars. The guy said it was in excellent condition, no rust and everything worked. I talked to him on the phone and even asked him specifically - does the A/C work, power windows, etc. He said yes, the car is in great condition, all of the above work and its got 150k on it. I said great, ill be down friday to pick it up.

My wife and I took the day off from work and drove 6 hours to NJ to pick it up and this thing was the biggest pile of ****. The rocker panels were so rusted I could put my arm through them. The A/C compressor was seized with no belt on it. 2 of the 4 widows didnt work, the heat didnt work, turn signals didnt work....the list goes on. It wasnt worth 300 bucks.

I was fuming mad! 6 hours, the day off, to find a piece of crap. I was probably making the guy a little nervous with my "tone", so he gave me my deposit back and 20 bucks for gas. I said, "20 BUCKS!, you better keep digging!" He gave me another 20 and I figured I better leave before I started smashing his head under the hood of the car. The bad part is that he ended the auction early for me, so I couldnt leave negative feedback.

To top it off - he puts the car back on ebay with the same description and it sold for close to 1800 bucks! I emailed the high bidder to tell him, but he never replied to me. So, hopefully he didnt have to drive that far.

Heres the car. Looks good in the picks, but you cant see the rockers. This guy is the lowest of the low.

I picked up an 88 Formula for $500. No dents, no rust, the only third gen in history with t tops that DON'T leak. I drove it to my grandma's house (right down the street basically), home, to work the next day, my girlfriends house (about 27 miles away), back home and it died. That was all for that car. It strains to start and when it finally does, it idle's TERRIBLY. It goes from 1200RPM's then drops down to 300RPM's. It has 112,000 miles on it and a TBI 305. Correct me if i'm wrong but i think the 83 had cross fire injection which many people didn't like. It's a really nice car and saying no to an F- Body is just about impossible but don't jump on the first thing you see. Keep that car in mind but look for other things as well. As N20LT4Bird said, when you're young, it's hard to say no to a nice car or one that you really like (i'm especially guilty of this). If you do decide to go for it, it looks like you'll be putting some money into it. Just from what you can see in the picture, i'm guessing it needs new headlight motors and there's that nice big crack.
Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!
              SOLD- Kinda miss it
94 Del Sol VTEC: 27 city/ 33 highway, knee deep in slowness
              SOLD- Good riddance!
2006 Ford Fusion: 2.3, 5 speed, could run 15lbs of boost with a 150 shot and it'd still be slow

This car will haunt me if I buy it. It will kill me if I buy it. Decisions.
