  • Horrible week. Very bad.

Well the week started great, was with my fiance all weekend, it was awesome. Come tuesday, it's a week in the field. No big deal. I've been deployed for a total of 13 months, 4 days is nothing! So on with the field week, the stupid bs that comes with any training. So friday morning rolls around.. 20k (12 mile) ruck march with 50 lb ruck, pouring rain the whole time, and of course its through the sand which is now thick mud! That didn't bother me too much surprisingly. So as i'm turning my weapon in to the arms room, ssg camp tells me i need to call the Military Police because my car was broken into. At this point im furious. So i go to the camaro..

Passenger side window shattered into pieces.. The tint held a lot of it together, but not enough. Car alarm was set off, not beeping any more as they didnt notice, all the generalize is within 6 hours. (so much for the hourly checks they are supposed to do) The radar detector and my video camera are gone! So fill out the police report.. now I have to wait on the report to be released and go to claims for Ft Bragg to pick up the tab on everything. Oh, and it is still POURING!! So the car is soaked inside. But they didn't touch any of the stereo equiptment.. wierd.

Later that day I found out a beamer two cars down from mine was broken into, stereo gone. And a bike was stolen.

So yesterday i get a call from my storage place.. There was 11 units broken into, mine being one of them. All my tools.. GONE! my tv/dvd combo gone! And some other stuff. So not only did my car get broken into, but so did my storage.. I hate this place. Nothing is safe anywhere. Good thing i have renters insurance.

So that was my wonderful week. Next week better not be this bad!

WTH is going on at Bragg? Man, that is just too much to have to put up with - that kind of security is unacceptable. If they can't even guard cars and storage lockers, how they going to secure an ammo magazine? You should write a (respectful) letter to the old man and ask him how you're supposed to do your job and keep your morale up with all that kind of crap on your mind. I hope there's some kind of insurance going to take care of you. Sorry that happenned.

My storage place is off base, my renters insurance (good thing i have that!) is going to pay for my tools etc.. After I eat my 250 deductible. Ft Bragg is going to pick up the tab on my car, dealing with claims takes a while though, so I'm out the 286 for the window for a while, doubtful they will cover the radar detector water damage or window tint, because no serial number. I have the serial number for the camera though. Noticed last night there was a roving guard watching the cars. Think my dad, a Lieutenant Colonel is going to have to call my commander and the First Sergeant today about this. It's unacceptable. This happens ALL THE TIME! Monthly on Ft Bragg there are about 40 break-ins. I'm still furious.

DUDE! step AWAY from the My daddy is a LTC statements!! LOL just messin with ya.. well SORT OF.. I totally agree that what is going on there is UNSAT and I would be very ticked off too. In fact I had my stereo ganked in Germany and they wouldn't even file a claim because there was no proof I locked my car.. HUH I am still trying to figure that one out. but I digress... what good is it going to do to have your dad call your CO and your 1SG? Wow what a way to screw yourself! Seems like things ARE changing in so far as they have roving guards now etc. You WILL get your money for your stuff.. LOL eventually.. claims take FOREVER.. but I am curious as to how you think having your daddy.. errrr an Officer who happens to be a LTC who also happpens to be your dad can help...

*sigh* I sure do hope you know what your doing...

Man that's bad. Hopefully you're in for some better luck.

I can feel your anger, especially when people don't do their job.

I had my T/A in a storage unit and the guy who was supposed to lock the gate at night didn't show up. Some idiot decided to randomly cut the weaker locks where the camera's couldn't pick him up.

Of course mine was one of them he opened up. Then he tried to slide something down between the window and the door without success. Lucklily the only thing he damaged was the window seal. Still a pain in the neck.

Hey man... Sorry to hear about the Z... I feel your pain! When I was in a FTX here at Ft Gordon, my car along with 7 other cars were broken into. Fortunatly for us, the Navy Barracks right next to mine had video cameras installed and had the piece of S#$& performing his act and caught the guy a week later. It was a civilian that did it too. That really got me goin. But its not just Bragg, its all military posts. It sucks cuz you would think the "D.A. Police" they have runin around would help (do to the increased man power) but it dont!

SFC AL is right about your dad callin your CO. It could bring a world of hell on you because of it. Just be careful. Good Luck to yah!!

I will making a trip up there to help a buddy move (hes getting out (525 MI)) and I would like to hang with some F-Bod guys instead of his gang-bangin friends. I'll let you know when exactly I'm gonna come up there.

now i don't feel half as bad about my day. I just had a long day today, blew a flat in my conquest at my school parking lot (tons of pot holes). It shredded the side walls, so I'm out like over 100 bucks, time, hassle, and a wasted tow. Things can always be worse I guess. I don't feel so bad anymore. Good luck with your situation man.

He didn't call the co. He said it was best for me to complain my butt off than him to do it. Although he did say if no actions are taken because of it, (as in CQ doing their job), after my talk with the 1SG and Commander, to talk to IG, and he would help me with that. I showed my command the policy on CQ duty, and they said it would change. Last night there was a roving guard, tonight no roving guard. The command here pretends to care, but they don't. For example on friday, it was pouring rain all day, but yet they had some stupid information, (literally useless, I told them I cannot attend the function because of school at night) all about the function. Instead of taking care of the glass. I have the car back now, clear glass, can't stand it. Need to get it tinted on saturday. Any one have any info on "in car cameras". I'm am very interested in getting one of those!

A funny suggestion, that makes perfect sense, was to park in a different spot. So that's a good theory, but 1 the spots are always full in front. 2. I used to park there, but my car has been hit twice (PARKED!), so no parking there for me. It's between a white car that doesn't move because its wrecked and my s-10 extreme. Or between a curb and my s-10.

One thing I have found out in my 14+ years in the Army is this... its just doesn't pay to have nice stuff! Either someone will like it more than you and STEAL it (as they did my stereo in Germany) or they will thrash it in a PCS move as has happened in EVERY PCS move I have done. Now don't get me wrong I DO have nice stuff.. for instance when I PCS now.. I pick out my crucial stuff that the wife would KILL me if it broke and I stand right there and make sure they pack it right.. a 61" sony tv ain't no JOKE to pack.. but I also let them know that after they do the job there is a case of beer in it for them, AS LONG AS I AM HAPPY with the work. As far as the cars go.. If this camaro ever goes to a military post to live.. SECURITY system and don't EVER park near the front door of the PX.. door ding for sure or WORSE!
If you have to park you car.. you might be lucky and have the MP station a few blocks away.. park your car there! LOL it would be worth the 1/4 mile walk for that peace of mind.

I've thought about askign the mps if i can park there, there is a station less than a 1/2 mile from here. Or i was thinking a bigger storage unit, better lock and a camera inside and park it there?

I can relate this morning. I got up to find the passenger side window broken out of the van. The only thing I can find missing is my 9 year olds purse which had $2 in it. So they bust a $200 window to get a $2 purse. I'm pretty sure I know when it happened. I heard a car drive down the street and turn around and leave. I live on a dead end road with 5 driveways on it. That happens a lot so I didn't think anything of it. Maybe 30 seconds later I heard a car drive by going towards the dead end. It didn't come back out. Then we heard a noise that sounded "different". Then I heard a car and headlights appeared on the window and it drove off. My wife got up and looked out the window but didn't see anything. Not even the car. She didn't notice the van. It was in the driveway. The Z and the Beetle were in the carport with red flashing alarm lights on them. They didn't bother them. We have a motion sensor light but it is in the middle of the carport. They broke the passenger side window out so the van was blocking the motion sensor on the light. Too bad too because the lift gate wasn't locked. Funny the purse was in the back seat so they had to open the back door to get it. The front door was still locked. The funny noise must have been them closing the back door. That was awfully nice of them.
