  • Rear axle swap

I replaced my stock '95 2.73 rear end with a 3.42 rear from a 2002 Z28. I now have sqeaking and a bit of axle play at the rear bearings. I have new bearings and seals to put on, but I am not sure if I am going to find some wear on the axles when I pull them out.

If the 2002 axles are grooved, will I be able to use my '95 axles in this rear?

When the brakes changed, so did the axles. You can't mix them.

I actually retained my '95 brakes after the swap. (The rear I bought did not come with the brakes.) I put the '95 backing plates on the '02 rear and brakes stayed the same. What would be the difference between the axles themselves?

      Thanks for the reply.
