  • puddle in the back

Hi guys from a soggy UK,
I am slightly confused as to the origin of a puddle that keeps forming behined the driver's seat by the prop tunnel.
I have no t-tops and the roof is dry and there appears to be no leaks from the side window!
Also my car doesn't seem to kick down or when it does the acceleration is barely there, maybe there is a cable that needs adjusting?
I have a 1993 T/A totally stock (apart from chameleon paint).
Any help/advise you can give would be much appreciated.

You'll need to remove some interior trim items, get inside the car and have an assistant spray a garden hose around every seam. That is the only way you'll find where the water is intruding. Most likely it is following a trail behind a trim panel and pooling in the low spot behind the seat.

As far as the power delivery, a scanner is going to be helpful. Without that, we're guessing. It is best though to start with a fresh state of tune. That means fresh plugs and wires, filters and fluids. From there, you'll be most likely tracing an emissions control circuit.

Thanks Joe, as far as the tune up goes the car's only covered 48000 miles although it did take part in the Gumball3000 this year.
As far as the performance is concerned the car sometimes is in a good mood and goes like a rocket but other times not, so it is an inconsistant problem that will be difficult to trace.
Maybe new plugs and leads will help, only time will tell.

        TV cable?

If you car does not "kick down" it could be the TV cable.

I'm assuing you mean it does not downshift when flooring the accelerator.

In 93 the cars used a TV cable going from the throttle body to the transmission. The cable could be out of adjustment or broken.

Yeah I agree about the TV cable having read about it in the Haynes book.
I haven't seen it though so I assume it is underneath at the gearbox end where I need to adjust it.

Sounds stupid but for the puddle by the drivers seat...check you body plugs. Get underneath your car and if you see carpet anywhere then a plug has fallen out. Or just have fun and tear the carpet outta the car!
