  • Security system not letting me sart my car

    I have a 93 TA. The car is doing some weird things; It will randomly not start. I will put the key in, turn to the on position and evrything powers up, but when i turn to the start position nothing. No sound no clicking no nothing. I have a "Electro-lock" system that came with the car when I bought it used. And I seldem ever use it. It has a little card that you can remove that will prevent anyone from starting the car. This is what the "not starting" symtoms remindes me of. I have cheked to make sure it is working fine. I do have an aftermarket alarm system with remote start, but i havent use the alarm sysem or the remote start for many months. I thought this alarm is jacking things up.. but there is one symtom keeping me from removing it.
    The security light on my dashboard now is illuminated when i drive and it is on when I cant start the car. Isnt this security light for the OME stereo (10 speaker system) headunit, something to do with it anti-theft device code? I have replaced the stock head unit about a year ago. Can the security light be related to the resitor pellet in the ignition key? Can the resistor pellet's contacts wear out, not make contact in the ignition switch and prevent me from starting my car sometimes? Has anyone with a car (along with the keys) as old as mine have this kind of problem?

    Clean you key with alcohol

    If that doesn't work, you probably have a frayed wire that goes to the ignition switch. You'll have to take your column apart to find out. Don't forget to disconnect the battery or you might get an air bag surprise working in that area.

      Okay...check this out... I heard this happens sometimes so its worth mentioning. Do you have any supermarket or CVS or other stars scan cards on your key chain? If you do this could be your problem. Try and notice if the "non starting times" are directly after you use the store scan card. It seems that in the process of scanning the card it screws up little chips like ours. It creates interferance of some kind that scrambles the little chip temporarily... after a little time the chip regains its composure and everything is fine. This creates a seemingly random no start situation. Also if you have a light showing try getting the codes scanned? might be worth it.

        Have had the same recurring problem for 2 years,,did[94 M6 Z28]

        1= Key bypass,putting corresponding resistance between Pass Key II box and Key !!

        2= Ed Wright programmed out the injector portion of Pass Key II when he redid my PCM.

        3=Bypassed starter cut off relay[passenger side,beside door.

        It still acts up at times,sometimes unplugging battery for 15 minutes works,other times not.

        Sometimes car will fire bur die after 3 seconds and security light stays on in the dash[with or without key in ignition]

        Other times nothing at all happens,dash lights up but as you turn key to ON position no juice goes through and it gets no signal from ignition,

        It refused to start in the lanes last month during the $10K race,lost the run cause it wouldn't fire,,,,,,

          You can bypass the VATS too...here is a link where a fellow EFA member did just that and tells how he did it.

            That gives exactly the same result as the resistance I placed under the dash,there are more devices that can keep it from starting besides the key.
