  • Which car would you rather have.....?

I'm looking at 3 older Camaros right now to buy as a "toy" while my 69 Z28 is being restored. Which car would you rather have?

    1) 1970 Z28 with a 95 LT1/6 speed transmission, 3.73 rear all restored for around $12,000. Car is yellow/black stripes, black int.

    2) 1971 RS/SS 396 with Th400 trans, 4.11 rear, matching #'s in primer needing to be painted and some reassembly of interior and trim for around $9000. Car is blue with black interior.

    3) 1968 SS350 with matching #'s 350/powerglide trans in very good condition for around $11,500. Car is red/red interior.

I may have already missed out on one of the cars but I won't say which one.
69 Z28 with JL8 factory 4 wheel disc brakes, crossram, transistor ignition, radio delete, heater delete - being restored
    70 SS 396 L78 documented, #'s matching

I would go with #1 - it should get good gas mileage plus it should be very streetable and reliable. Since it is a toy, you don't want to have to work on it too much and from your description it sounds like it is ready to roll!!

Second choice would be # 3 - I love the look of the 1st gens. especially a red SS!!

    ***SOLD*** It will be missed!!

Umm.. depends on what you want....since you already have a collectible type car being restored I guess I would go with option one as it really is worth nothing other then toy factor. The other two are more collectable themselves. One key would be to not get a car that outshines your car being restored... is the restoration being done on a numbers matching rare-ish car? If not then getting option three for instance might outshine the car you already have?

There's my first choice. Originality and investment.

Almost a tie with my first choice..... deciding factor is that it needs additional restoration. Not a good choice if I were already in another restoration project.

Still a nice ride, but my third choice due to a non numbers matching car. $12K seems like it's not investment material but would be a fun driver.

I'd go with #2 for the long run. It might be worth more if it realy is a desirable and matching numbers car.

Since you have the '69 Z28, go with option #1. It would be a blast to drive, and it could easily be a daily driver. I would love something like that. I am thinking about a '79 T/A with a EFI 455 HO with a Richmond 6 as my next daily driver Big bucks to build though
              '77 K5 rock-crawler project
              '79 T/A: WS6, 400 4sp, 40K miles; Completely stock and original
'87 Lifted 3/4 ton Suburban (Big Blue) plow truck
'94 Roadmaster Wagon (The Roadmonster) 200,000 miles and still going
              '97 T/A: (SLP 1LE Suspension, SB, & sfc(s), Loudmouth); 4.10s; B&M Ripper; R/A Hood; ZR1s
My daily drivers: '06 Jeep Liberty CRD (wife); '01 Yukon Denali XL (me); '03 Stratus Coupe (me)

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

It's a tough call at this point. Since I'm not doing any of the work on my 69 Z28 due to the value and rarity of the car, I wouldn't mind doing some work to either #2 or #3. I've never owned a 2nd gen Camaro so #1 or #2 would be cool to play with. #1 is an awesome car that probably cost at least $20K to build. #3 has a boring transmission but since it's original it would be hard to swap out. #2 seems to be the best investment and potential fun car but it's not in presentable condition like the other two. I can't decide so maybe I'll let fate decide for me.

Well, like I figured would happen, fate may have stepped in. the 1970 Z28 with the LT1/6 speed is sold, the 1971 RS/SS 396 is not #'s matching and the engine needs to be assembled but the 1968 SS350 appears to be original so that's the one I'm going after.
