  • Question for Joe 1320

Hey Joe, You told me to try cleaning off the O2 sensor before I go buy a new one. A couple questions about that.... Did you just mean unplug it and maybe use rubbing alcohol to clean the connections. Or did you mean take the whole sensor off and clean it that way? If so, what do you use to clean it? Oh yah, did you ever dig up your SLP CIA? Thanks

In cleaning, I was talking about the external contacts. Disconnect the harness from the sensor and spray the contacts with electronic contact cleaner (available from Radio Shack). Rubbing alcohol on a q-tip will work too. You can't clean the sensor bulb itself. This is done just to confirm you are indeed getting a good contact at the harness. The reason I feel this is critical is because on two occations, friends have brough their car to my garage for help with changing o2 sensors. The dealer had said their sensor was bad..... turns out the harness was just making a crappy connection. Makes you wonder how many times the dealer replaces a good sensor. I even experienced the same thing with an intermittant Bank one, secondary sensor. The difference here was that I was running my scanner and saw no activity, 5 minutes later the sensor was working fine. Then later in the day, if was inactive again. Cleaned the connections and bingo! 25K miles later, still good.

The SLP cold air has been found. Evidently it ended up getting mixed in with some stuff that my ex-wife took during the split. I've contacted her and should have it this weekend. Hopefully all the parts are there. I'll let you know Either late Friday or Saturday.
