  • 35mm SLP Front Sway Bar & 24mm Third Gen Rear Bar?

I recently replaced my stock 32mm Front & 19mm Rear Sway bars on my 97 Camaro SS with SLP's 35mm front & 21mm rear bars. My question is, should I have upgraded the rear with a 24mm bar from a Third Gen F-body instead of the 21mm bar? Since GM's F41 suspension combined both a 36mm Front and 24mm Rear bar together should I try and match the new 35mm front bar with something larger than the 1LE 21mm rear bar, like the 24mm piece? Hate to wind up with to much Understeer from the installation of the larger front sway bar and an inadequate rear sway bar.

    Thanks,
    Eric

I read an article once that stressed the importance that they be matched units. Now, I don't know how to match them up, but when I upgraded mine, I just went with a set instead of just getting the largest ones out there, which the article said was a mistake.

Kevin a matched set is definitely the way to go. Since SLP installed, as an option, 35mm & 21mm bars in 2001 & 02 Camaros/Firehawks then I guess their set-up would be considered a "matched set". Which brand and size bars did you wind up installing?

I was going to buy Adco bars, but ended up with the Hotchkiss ones. They are both pretty big - I think the front is 1 7/16" and the rear is 1" (which is about what you have proportionally but slightly larger) - they are hollow, so not very heavy. I will get new tires next spring - some KDs I think, and get the drag radials off there. Then I am going to rip out the front control arms, springs, & shocks and replace all that, too. Then I will see how it handles. In your case, I don't know whether the extra 3 mm on the rear bar would hurt or help or not make a difference - maybe a guy with a lot of road-racing experience could tell you.

What really matters is whether the car over steers (loose), is neutral, or under steers (pushes). http://www.koni.com/_cars/_general_i...ndersteer.html There are several things that effects this including sway bars, shock compression, shock rebound, etc. Let me see if I can get this right, a bigger rear bar will make a car under steer more, a smaller one will make it over steer more. If the car is neutral, putting a bigger rear bar will make it worse. Another words how does it handle now?

Koni makes shocks that you can adjust compression and rebound separately. It's the only one I know of that can do that. http://www.koni.com/_cars/_special/info.html

I went with BMRs. It was a tossup with Spohns.
