    i am gonna change my gears this week from 2.73's to 3.42's and i need to know what size carrier and pinion shims i need to use.
    1996 Firebird Trans Am ws-6 a4
    BBK headers
    3in. Exaust with flow 80
    Port and Polished Heads
    58mill Throttle Body
    Lowered an inch
    2:73s... 3:42 goin in soon
    2001 S-10
    Air-Ride - SOLD
    2003 S10
    Lowered 6 inches
    2005 HD sportster 1200 custom
    Drag bars
    Lowered 3 inches

    A 96 ws6 has 3.23 gears not 2.73.

      my car was salvaged and the front half is the ws-6 and the back half is a 96 formula.... the codes in my glove box say 2.73

        You will need a three series carrier designed for 3.08 or more. You can however get a thicker gear designed to replace the 2.73 so that a different carrier isn't required. i would opt of the carrier, personally. As far as pinion shims, those are included in a kit and many different thicknesses. The gears must be set up with gauges and each one takes a little different configuration. There is no "out of the box" answer. I've even had shims shaved in order to get just the right clearance.
