  • N*F*B* My veggie powered Benz.....

Now, I havent become a tree-hugging hippie, but in order to balance out a 500 horse, fuel guzzlin' bird, I built this.

Its an 85 MB 300D. Not a spot of rust, runs awesome, cruises nice, everything works and the best part is that I converted it to run on FREE waste vegetable oil. I just finished it and runs BETTER than on diesel. I have about 100 miles on used, waste oil so far. The pics show the car, the oil tank in the spare tire well, and my "fuel station" in my basement.

Now that's what I'm talking about - Does it get good "oil" mileage? Hopefully you have a good supplier of waste oil, because that stuff is expensive when you by it new at the grocery store

I use waste vegetable oil from a restaurant down the road from me. I get at least 30 gallons a week from them for free.

I thought about the potential pitfalls, and I have done my research on this.

There were some people who thought (and still think) they could just run veggie oil in their car by just pouring it into the tank running it. Well, it works - for a while. Then, you run into deposits and coking that damage internal components.

The key is to run HOT vegetable oil. The car is started on diesel fuel and hot antifireeze is pumped through various heat exchangers which heat the oil to the point where its over 150 degrees. The car is switched over by the flip of a switch, to veggie. If its hot, thinned oil, it can spray out the injector and atomize just like diesel fuel and you dont run into the coking, and deposits. There have been vehicles run for over 100k on this method without a problem. In fact the veggie lubricates the injection and lift pumps better than diesel!

I was wondering why there were so many fat girls following me all the time, and then I got a wiff of the exhaust!

Actually, it does smell pretty good. Just like your cooking in the frying pan.

People laughed at me and said "oh that thing will be billowing smoke down the road if it runs at all". Well, its a lot cleaner than diesel. It doesnt smoke at all and it literally smells like youre cooking in a frying pan. It actually smells good! Im sure theres CO emitted, but its nothing like the diesel fuel. Im also getting about 25 miles to the gallon!
