  • 99 t/a times?

I just bought a 1999 trans am Non Ram air 6-speed... I'm not for sure of the rear end, although it seems really high..... it has 55k miles on it and absolutely NO mods... the clutch feels good, but I want something a little more agressive... I was thinking about goin with a centerforce dual friction and also upgrading the rearend to a 3.73.... I haven't been able to find 1/4 mile times for a non-ram air 6-speed... what would you think it would be? would 14.0-14.2@98-100 about right? it feels like a low 14 car at least. And can you give me a list of mods that you would recommend on it, along with what kind of gains I could expect?

I like 'stock appearing', so I'm thinking about just building it with ls6 heads and intake and a little more aggressive cam, and a set of long tubes..... My goal would be 380-400rwhp.... is this inline with what an ls6/zo6 with headers and cam would produce??

thanks in advance!! i love the t/a world!!! my previous car was a 5.0 stang and this t/a is so much better all around!! power, comfort, looks, gas mileage....

How experienced are you at the strip? I ran a 13.5 my first time ever down a drag strip in my 02 WS6.

You have the same engine, and "Ram Air" is nothing more than a gimmick...

There are slight differences from year to year in the LS1 motor, but power wise, you are probably around 305-315 at the rear wheels.

You should run a 13 in your sleep. Once you become familiar with the car, mid 13s - maybe even low 13s - should be in sight. My best time stock was 13.3.

Look to trap anywhere from 105-107 with the 6 speed.

    Have fun!

Also... you would have to go slightly more aggressive than the LS6 cam and heads to hit those power numbers... but it would still be VERY driveable.

I'm thinking its a 3.23 gear, is this correct? Also it only has the 16" rims and 235's(??) on the back.... so there's a little bit of traction limitation... not much, but enough... I'm thinking that 14.0 is tops on the car in the state its in....

The ram-air provides a few things... the 'ram-air' part obviously (which will only give about 2-5 hp at 80mph, but then there's the high flow exhaust system, and 3.42 gear...as well as the wider/stickier tires which help out on the pull out....

I'm pretty experienced at the track, not with this car, but I find it much easier to drive as its 'tamer' and had a broader power ban then my cammed 5.0.....

also, do you know where I can get the cheapest firehawk/raptor style hood??

my car has the hurst shipper too, but it feels pretty clunky compared to the pro 5.0 i had in my stang.... what would you suggest to replace it?

I seriously doubt you have a 3.23 rear...

You will trap 105 or so, I sure hope you can hit 13s with that trap speed.

Ram Air gives you 3 HP at 100 mph, and that is assuming 100% efficiency. Basically, it is unlikely it makes enough power to make up for the aerodynamic drag it creates.

Yes, the WS6 package has a better suspension for handling, but I don't think straight line is effected very much.

Let me put it this way... the fastest LS1 f-body ran a 12.8. It wasn't some fancy shmancy Firehawk or SS or WS6. It was a Camaro Z28.

You will run 13s with that car... probably your first time down the strip with it, provided you have decent tread left.

Maybe it's just me... but I would never be happy finding the "cheapest" anything for my car... I would look around to get a good deal for sure, but remember you get what you pay for.

hahahahaha... for a shifter I recommend the Pro 5.0

Ditto what Jay 02 TA ws6 said...you get for what you pay for. Personally, I like the regular hood...it's clean.

Spend some time here and surf the forum, you can find almost anything you need to know.
