  • Tire question... (Ken?)....

    Hey guys,
I usually live by the phrase "You get what you pay for." However, at the time that I got new tires for my camaro, I didnt have enough cash to get really good tires. I ended up getting a set of Kumho ECSTA's. These tires are really cheap. I think I got a set of four 245/50-16's for $250 from Tirerack.com. I have had them on the car for a while, and I can say they dont grip as well as some other tires I have had, but I dont think they are that bad. For the price, I feel they are a good bargin. Does anyone else have any other opnions on these tires?

    Let me know,

keep and eye on them. look for something we call "river wear". what that is..is a "wavy wear pattern" across the face of the tread.

tell you why... that tire has had problems with the belt package stabilizers, allowing the belt package to "slip" side to side slightly while you are rolling. this allows the tread pattern to "wander" on the road surface. if it gets worse, the belt can permantely shift over on one side causing a severe pull in one direction .. lot of folks think they have an alignment problem by mistake... not so.

i advised against these tires to a good friend of mine with a firehawk, he got them anyway... and sure enough..ended up having to return them for partial refund..

just keep an eye on em, thats all. and make sure you run the proper inflation. not the inflation that is "max" on the tires sidewall, the inflation thats printed on your drivers door jam from GM.

The Fulda's are relly nice and only 88$ a piece. They have a Cr@py treadwere rating (they do were) but I could cut sub 2 (1.9) second 60fts with them. I know some cars with drag radials that dont get sub 2 second 60 ft times. Very sticky tires!

There also the largest 16 inch tire your going to find (255/50R16)

Federal ss595 seem to be a good tire so far for me, really sticky and good wear, Ive put 5000 k on them and they still look great probably good for another 20000.

If you don't put alot of miles on them, they will still deteriorate and start cracking all along the valleys across the tread. Then the water starts getting into the belts and the tire comes apart. Keep an eye on them as suggested.

You could take a look at the FUSION ZRi,they are inexpensive and are from what I have experienced great "Bang for the buck".
Not on a par with S0-2/3 , KWD , GS-D3 ,but are 1/3 the price.

Federal Tire of China......... bad news...... good luck.

poor cord body construction, no belt edge wedge supports.

sorry. just telling it like it is.
