  • battery drain

    Hi guys,
I know it's nigh on impossible to diagnose faults without seeing the car but I'm optimistic.
My battery keeps draining completely over just a couple of days, and by disconnecting the negative cable and placing a bulb on the terminal inline with the cable I have found that it lights up therefore a drain is occuring.
I know nothing has been left on because I jump started her and checked everything.
It isn't the alarm because I've disconnected it, however when I reconnected the negative I can hear a click of a relay over the driver's side but have checked to find that it isn't any of the 'under hood' relays but sounds like it comes from somewhere underneath that area.
Is there any relays under there? or has anyone had this problem before and can shed some light on it.
    Cheers

Here are a couple of trick to try. Do your same test but have all the fuses pulled. one by one, add the fuses until the light pops on. Then you have found the affected circuit. Don't forget about the relay box on the driver's side behind the airbox.

I had lights in the glove box and the center console storage box that did not get shut off properly when closing the door/lid. Those do not cause a big drain, but you might notice a problem after a couple/few days. I pulled the light out of the console, and rigged the glove box to work better.

Thanks for your response guys, I've had a sparky at work look at it and he thinks that the drain is down to the clock and radio memory because he calls the drain 'insignificant' since he deems it to be only half an amp drain.
He does think however that since it is a new battery it may well not of had a full charge or it isn't holding a charge, so he put the battery on charge tonight and will see what happens tomorrow.
BTW I don't have a light in my console box poossibly down to a previous alarm install that has a sensor box placed in the centre console box, also I think my light is out in the glove box anyway.
Cheers from a cold and miserable England!

The clock and radio memory should pull maybe 50 miliamps not a half an amp. Something else is draining it at the rate of a half an amp.

I have had the battery on charge now for nearly two days as it was soooo flat!
Anyway tomorrow it will go back in the car so we can see how long it takes to discharge, if at all.
