  • plug wire routing

Hey maybe you guys could help. I have a 97 camaro LT.1. I changed the plugs and wires and about a month later it started missing. I checked it, and i burned through #7 wire so i replaced it. But i dont know how to get it by the manifold with out cooking it. any suggestions? Thanks

    David.

Did you keep the stock metal shielding in place, over the wire and the plug boot?

Which cylinder of the exhaust burned through it?

There is a metal plate that runs outside the manifold flange under the cylinder 7 exhaust tube that the wire goes in.

if I remember right, #7 runs through a metal "tunnel" just above the oil pan lip as it runs by the down pipe. It then comes out of this tunnel just past or below the #7 plug then loops around from behind and connects to the plug with the wire from the 90 degree boot facing the firewall. Is this how your ran it?

At the very top left of this picture, you can see the metal plate that the wires runs through/behind.

                  Stock routing looks like this:

There it is. I wasn't sure you (Rob) would be on here that quickly.

Incidentally, See those stupid metal shields on the #5 and #7 spark plug boots. I put them on the Moroso wires I put on and they caused the spark to arc to them and miss big-time. I'm lucky my engine building neighbor knew they were a problem.

Very good post, I am about to tackel the wire job myself. Question would be what wires do you guys suggest. My engine is pretty much stock, other then a rebuild about 30 k ago, my guess would be 30 over. K&N cold air induction, knock module from LT4, flow master exhuast. Red would be nice for a color, let me know what i should put, i might put an msd coil and ingnition box in the near future if you think it would give me alittle bit more.

The hard part is routing the wires on the passenger side. There is a funny looking plastic piece that is mounted to the front of the alternator bracket that is very hard to get oversized wires in. If you don't get them in it, they will rub on the air pump pulley. It's a big PITA. It's an all day job.

I got the Moroso from http://www.stealthperf.com/ They are a message board sponsor and they sponsor Timelord's race car. Support the home team you know.

This is funny, I did my own spark plug replacement and I did route the no.7! wire wrong, result - burned wire and rough idle. hehe
Opti sucks and the way the wires are routed. I've seen someones picture of custom cut wires attached to the valve covers, very neat.
