This looks like a good cause. Bill O'Reilly is talking about it on the radio.

The Backpack Program looks especially good considering what I heard in Kuwait. We had a lady who had to get some treatment in Germany (non combat related). She talked about the soldiers coming in not having clothes or toiletries. They were evacuated quickly for obvious reasons, but for that same reason didn't bring many of the basics with them.

This holiday season is approaching fast and many Americans will be spending their holidays far from home -- our troops. Because of security concerns, we can't send unsolicited packages as we could in the past. But there are some ways you can brighten the day of a soldier. Here are a few organizations working for our troops.

Any Soldier http://anysoldier.com/index.cfm provides soldier contacts you can browse that include lists of what they need and want.

Operation Uplink http://www.operationuplink.org/ is a unique program that keeps military personnel and hospitalized veterans in touch with their families and loved ones by providing them with a free phone card.

Operation Dear Abby http://anyservicemember.navy.mil/ allows you to send your message of encouragement to the troops via an online interface.

Soldiers' Angels http://www.soldiersangels.com/ gives you the opportunity to adopt a soldier so you can send them letters with words of encouragement and packages of goodies to keep their spirits up.

The USO has a Sponsor A Care Package program http://www.usocares.org/src/uso_home.htm .

Books For Soldiers http://booksforsoldiers.com/ is a soldier support site that ships books, DVDs and supplies to deployed soldiers and soldiers in VA hospitals, via a large volunteer network.

Operation AC http://operationac.com/ sends air conditioners (and heaters!) to our troops in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund http://www.semperfifund.org/ provides supplemental assistance to our Marines, sailors, and their families as they face their road to recovery.

      Lifted from http://boortz.com/more/troops_holiday_support.html . I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

        Thanks for the info Jeff-
This may be a little off subject, but I’m starting to think that maybe the soldier that was accused of murder, may be a public relations thing, and that maybe they will realize that he didn’t do anything wrong. Bill O’Reilly made the statement that he believes that 90% of Americans believe that he is innocent, based on all of the Emails that he got. I think what it boils down to is that this stuff goes on all of the time, but just not caught on video that much. I do remember seeing one other video a while back showing something very similar, but this was before Abu Ghraib. Most likely the commanders out on the battlefield have been told to watch out for potential media problems, and to try to keep everything “Politically Correct”- I hope that is all that it is-

Coming soon: A Firebird graphic opposite the Camaro graphic-
