per Dept of Transportation requirements, all passenger and light truck tires have whats called "wear bars". these are located in the tread grooves and are spaced around the circumferance of the tread surface. on the side wall, you will see a mark indicating a location of these wear bars. when the tread surface is even with the wear bar, its time to replace the tire.

worn tires are a safety hazzard. they pick up foriegn objects and get flats on the average of over 88% than tires with more tread depth. they also loose thier wet traction ability by 70%.....

remember....the tire is THE LINK between your car and the world. simple.

Shouldn't the best 2 tires be up front where the steering is ?

        Use a penny

I always was told to use a penny and if you can see the top of Lincoln's head that it was time to replace the tires. It's a good way to check tires and look for change under the seats too.
