  • water pump question

I have a small leak coming from the weep hole. I assume this means a failing water pump? Im looking to install a electric water pump. My question is ... If coolant is coming out the weep hole does that mean the water pump housing is bad too. Thanks Ron....

The pump shaft seal(s) are on their way out....I would change the entire assembly....if you want to go electric, thats the second step, IMHO.

The most common failure of LT1 waterpumps is the pump shaft bearing. Once it goes, the pump's ability to work correctly goes as well.

Some people have attached a small rubber hose to the weep hole after reinstallation of a new water pump. They routed the rubber hose out of the way of the opti and below it so that any future water pump woes wouldn't directly affect the opti.

Maybe I'm not asking my question right. Right now their is a very small leak out the weep hole. Can I use the old water pump housing currently on the car and mate the electric pump to it and be good to go? OR.. Do I new to buy a new GM water pump just for the housing to mount the new electric pump. thanks again.....

You just need to remove the existing impeller and then mate the electric pump to the stock housing. You also need to cover the hole in which the old input shaft used to come through. Meziere pumps for the LT1 come with a 1 1/8 freeze plug that fits perfectly.
