  • Rear axle question

I had the TA in the shop for a coolant flush before I park it for the winter, to make a long story short they told me that my right axle moves out a 1/4 inch. They said it might be the clip in the rear. When I turn the car around a corner (turning right) I hear a scraping noise from the passenger rear. I was wondering if anyone experianced the samething.

Maybe only the disk brake caliper is holding it in. If you take the caliper off and the axle comes out, then you got a problem in the rear. If that is the case, you can take the cover off and have a look at the c clip that holds the axle in - you might have to remove the crosspin, but that's an easy job.

they had the rear caliper off and it didnt slide out all the way, just that little bit. Do you think its ok to drive without it brakin and fallin out for a few miles to the shop. I dont plan on roasting the tires. When it comes to rear-ends I'm not to familiar with some of the parts in them.

There's a big metal pin in there that keeps the axle from moving in because if it moves in the c-clip can fall out - that's how you remove the axles. It doesn't sound like this has happenned to yours since they couldn't pull it out, but you can't have it moving back & forth like that while you're driving. It would be wise to have it checked out because you can't lose an axle and not wreck a bunch of expensive parts. Maybe you can have the fluid changed and get it inspected at the same time. If you can't afford that, then you sure can't afford to fix it if it breaks.

I was going to have it fixed monday, plus they're going to put in my 3.73 gears also. I was just hoping it wouldnt fall apart on my way to the shop.
