  • Plastic Piece Cracked

How can I fix a cracked plastic piece inside my engine compartment. Its in the front right in front of the drivers side headlight, and before the front bumper. It runs about .75 feet from right to left. Can it be melted back in place kind of like soddering?????

HAve you researched the cost of a new one? If its a $15.00 part you might not want to mess around trying to fix it.

Alot of those plastic parts are cheap.

Its the plastic piece that the front bumper cover is attached too. Looks like a ALOT of work to remove it. I would rather just try to repair the 1 on the car if its possible. (Easier.) Doesn't need to look that good just make it more sturdy, and to prevent further cracking.

You'd be surprised at how easy it is to pull the front body panels off these cars. I can have the entire front nose cover off my car in 20 minutes. Another 15 minutes for both the fenders. It's really not that big a deal.

Their are composite plastic repair kits. Can you provide a picture so that we could see exactly what you are talking about.

And like Tracy mentioned, it it fairly easy to remove the front bumper cover (valance).

Cut a piece of sheet metal big enough to cover the crack with plenty of over lap to either side of the crack. Rough up the plastic piece and the sheet metal lightly with a little bit of sandpaper. Mix up some epoxy which you can get anywhere (such as WalMart) if you don't already have some and put it over the area that the sheet metal will cover. Put the sheet metal on top of the expoxy and then cover the top side of the sheet metal with epoxy also. When all that hardens up (takes about 8 hours) it will be stronger than the original. I have fixed numerous items like this and it works great.
