  • Engine running bad after RUN RITE?...

    Hey everyone,
I took my car to a shop to get it to pass inspection Saturday Morning. They played with my timing @ cleaned my combustion chambers with that Run Rite stuff. Later that day, I got on the gas & found out the car has NO power after about 3,500rpm. It feels like the car isn't getting enough gas or something if I have it floored, the RPMS don’t even climb. I cant imagine anything they did to the timing would only mess up the higher RPM's (But I may be wrong.) So that leaves two possiblites:
    1) The RUN RITE stuff may have screwed up something. (Mabey the stuff it got out of the combustion chamber clogged up my cat?)

    2) There is another problem that has nothing to do with what the shop did & is just a conisidence.

Im no expert with that stuff (I always pulled my heads and clean the combustion cambers after 50,000 miles or so) but I bet the stuff is all in your spark pulg gap, maybe its fouling the plug out? or maybe the injector go cloged from it. I think your should wait a day or two though and give you motor time to burn up what ever maybe left.

Also it just came to me that maybe your Cats are clogging up from the stuff.

    Just a guess

Didn't you post elsewhere that it only passed NOx emissions after they severely retarded the timing? Did they return the timing to the correct setting?

I checked the timing it was set at 0*. So bumped it back to 6* advanced. But it didn't help. I guess I am just going to take it back and see what the shop says.

I put a full tank of gas in it yesterday, and that seemed to help quite a bit. I am wondering if the pump is going bad now?

My guess is that whatever crud you stirred up might be working it's way out. I've never heard of Run-Rite. Clue me in will ya.......

If its what Im thinking it is, then its a Carbon build-up remover, it foams up th intake manifold and Intake ports, as well as conbustion cambers and removes the carbon build up that hurt performance and throttle response. I saw it on Two Guys Garage

Pretty much. They call it a combustion chamber cleaning system. The procedure is:

-They hook up what looks like an IV in a hospital to your intake.
-The fluid then drips into your intake and goes to the combustion chamber.
-In the combustion chamber, it disolves whatever carbon you have built up in there.
-Then broken up/dissolved carbon is then carried out the engine via the exhaust.

Sounds almost like GM top end cleaner or seafoam. 02 sensors could have been fouled, plugs, etc.
