  • The Weight

Well I was thinking about aother project car (Im a littel sick of the bug, not enought elbow room) so Im looking for another F-body and I was wondering if anyone know that the lightest models were. I think the next one will be as Pro touring as can get, I want to pull like 1.1 g's on the skid pad.

    Many thanks,
    Trey

If you're cocerned with weight, 1st & 2nd gens may have a bit much metal. Besides that later mods are more airodinamic

Third gens are probably the lightest of all generations. but there are some that are lighter but you will have to move to a six to get lighter.

you can lose seats (80#) ac (40#) carpet (45-50# depending on dirt content) AIR system (35#) bu then you may want SFC and STB add all the weight you took away. oh well.

Joe Overton claims a 3,000# race weight on his 9.4-second ALL MOTOR LT1 Firebird. Assuming Joe is not a "stature challenged individual" (is that politically correct? ), I would assume he managed to get the car alone close to 2,800#. I know he has a complete fiberglass molded dash, extremley light-weight brakes, etc.

A 2900 lb curb weight is easily obtainable on a 4th Gen F-body. WITHOUT chopping up the uni-body. There is an infamous thread over on www.ls1tech.com that lists tons of weight reduction ideas totaling well over 800 lbs!
