Intake Elbow

Hey everyone. I just got my hands on a used intake elbow , great shape, as mine needs to be replaced. Since mine is torn on the bottom could that effect my performancee in anyway?
My maine question is, i want to eliminate that extra air tube on the bottom, anyone has any ideas how to plug the hole in the elbow? Any significant gains from that, as some have claimed?

The cheap way is to buy a shampoo bottle with the same shape as the plug . First leave the plastic tube connected to the elbow. where the rubber meets the plastic tube under the clip cut there.take the shampoo bottle top add a ring of JB weld. plug up the hole an wait till the JB weld is dry or you can buy the $35 plug off the internet. I did the shampoo trick until I got my 1LE elbow.

The torn elbow will not have affected your 93 speed-density setup as much as it would have affected the later MAF equipped models. You were feeding your engine unfiltered, dirty, overheated air, and it was bypassing the IAT sensor, which affects the speed-density calculations. Wasn't helping anything.

I don't know of anyone who ever claimed an improvement other than "easier to install" for deleting the air resonance tube.

I pulled the plastic tube out of the bellows, cut the top 3" off of the plastic tube, flipped it over and pushed it back into the opening until it was sticking inside the bellows. Scribed the part that was sticking out of the inside, pulled the plastic tube back out. Ground the tube down until it matched the scribed contour of the inside of the bellows, filled the tube with 2-part epoxy, and sanded the "inside" end of the epoxy to exactly match the contour of the bellows. Coated the outside of the plastic tube with RTV, pushed it in until the end was flush with the bellows, and put a hose clamp around the plastic to hold it in that position. Only do this if you have a lot of spare time, and nothing better to do with it .

Is there a company that makes a replacment for the third gen TPI cars? With all the ribs in the elbow it must have a crap load of turbulence in there. I have a MAF car so I would imagine that it takes a two peice kit.

Fred it seems like a lot of work, I just should've went with the 1LE elbow, but you can't beat the $20 bucks I paid for the one I have. I'll just give a nice wash and isntall it.
